We hiked up to Taiko-iwa (太鼓岩) during our Shiratani Unsuikyo hike in Yakushima. It has a fantastic view of the surrounding mountain range at 1,050 meters above sea level. Much of this island is part of the Yakushina National Park and also a World Natural Heritage site. *From the entrance of Shiratani Unsuikyo, it's about a 6km-hike round trip. Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine (白谷雲水峡) is a lush forest, full of moss covered rocks and trees. Some places have a clear path, others a pink ribbon is your only guide. But it is an easy hiking course and a great place for beginners to explore Yakushima National Park.
