Don't skedaddle before you've gone to the Yidashao Pier and Sun Moon Lake Ci'en Ta in Shuili. If you're keen to visit Shuili, look into the Zen and Pine Resort and HOTEL HONEYMOON SUM MOON LAKE. Or, you could stay in Lugu, 25 kilometres to the west of Xinyi, where you'll find the Pusu Bed and Breakfast and Ting Tau Garden Resort. If you're staying in Lugu, set aside a little time to visit Xitou Nature Education Area and National Fonghuanggu Bird Park.

Unless you're planning to spend a night on the floor of Chiayi Airport, it's probably a good idea to book some accommodation before you leave. The Hotel Day Plus is not too far away, or you could always travel to the centre of town. It's 65 kilometres away.

I took the family (wife and three teenage children) and we stayed for 2 nights in single room with 2 king size beds. Overall it was a very comfortable stay and both the buffet breakfast and dinner were nice. The shuttle bus to the train station in the morning made it easier to travel to see the sunrise, and with the hotel located in the centre of the park, it was close to all the main walks. The hotel appeared a bit outdated, even though we were in the modern building. One disadvtange was the bath room was open style and it would have been nice to put a door or blinds. Apart from that, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Alishan. As an aside, the hotel organise a private taxi to pick us up from Chiayi to Alishan Hotel, and then from the Alishan hotel to our next destination in Tainan. The driver was excellent and very knowledgeable of the Alishan area, with many good recommendations.
