Forgetting your own birthday drinks is a pretty big sign that you need to get outta town for a bit. So why not step off the beaten track to Vore and lose yourself in the splendid coastal plains, mountains and sandy beaches of Albania? (The only thing you'll have to remember is how to relax!)

If you venture roughly 15 kilometres to the southeast of Vore, you'll discover the buzzing city of Tirana.

Perhaps you'll come across some pebbles to skim across the water as you walk along the water's edge at Velika Plaza Beach.

You should always know where the closest natural escape lies. Here, it's Mount Datji, 20 kilometres out of Vore.

Located 16 kilometres away, Qemal Stafa Stadium is a favourite for soccer followers. Pack some blue and white, and time your stay with a game featuring the home team, the KF Tirana. You can also give your support to the second home team, the KS Dinamo Tirana.

Maminas, 5 kilometres to the west, is popular for the Epoka University and Preze Castle. Why not make your way there and see these wonderful attractions? Or, go to Kruje, 18 kilometres to the northeast of Vore, for National Museum George Kastrioti Skanderbeg and Kruja Castle.

Planning to head to Berat? This destination is only 80 kilometres to the south. If you're setting up base here, grab a map and circle Berat Castle, the Ethnographic Museum and the Cobo Winery. Also consider taking a peek at the Onufri Museum and Chapel of St Michael.
