Holidays in Uloya

Relaxation. Adventure. Relaxation. Adventure. Off to Uloya but can't decide what kinda getaway you want? Don't get in a tizz! We'll help sort it out.

It's located 1,200 kilometres to the northeast of Oslo, the national capital of Norway.

Nord-Lenangen is 18 kilometres to the northwest and worth going to. Need some more ideas? Sørlenangen, 20 kilometres to the west of Uloya, ought to be your second stop.

Sitting 70 kilometres to the west, Tromso is a place that has plenty to offer. The University of Tromso, Polaria and the Art Museum of Northern Norway are close by. Keep in mind, the Polar Museum and the Mack Brewery may be more your thing.

If you think it's time to indulge your inner adventurer, sign up for some snowmobiling. That said, there aren't many better ways to see the landscapes of this region than with a little mountain climbing.

If you're looking to relax, few things are better than heading into the open air and going shore fishing or bird watching.

Whether you're splashing in it, floating on it or zooming across it, not much beats spending the day by the water. You can have a go at a variety of watersports here, such as rafting and canoeing.

If your littlest travellers are ready for some winter action, why not surprise them with snowboarding? Skiing is another stimulating activity if they're just firing up!

The region's art museums and history museums offer something for all travellers. Step inside and check out what's happening.

You'd be hard-pressed to think of a better way to explore the local area than by seeing its open-air museums and gardens.

Please the history nerd within by exploring the nearby traditional villages, old towns and war relics and monuments. They're great places to learn a thing or two about the region's past.

You don't need to be religious to admire Uloya's churches and cathedrals. Learn a bit about the local set of beliefs and find some calm at the same time.

Dazzle your taste buds and fill your Instagram account with appetising pics by feasting on some of the region's best food and drink offerings. Just remember to hashtag 'yum'!

A staple ingredient in the cuisine here is moose. One more is whale meat. They're definitely worth trying out if they're not already a part of your food repertoire.

Ask one of the locals what to eat in Uloya and svinekoteletter (pork chops) will probably be the first thing that rolls off their tongue. Barents ham (whale meat dish) is another regional specialty you might like to dig into.

You're on holiday, so why not tuck into some krumkake (thin rolled cake filled with cream)? It's worth every single calorie!

Want to add some fire to your evening? A couple of rounds of karsk (coffee and vodka) should do it! On ice, neat, in a cocktail — the decision is yours!

You'll be travelling all that way to the Troms region, so why not put in the extra effort to memorise a few words and expressions in the local language? Trust us, it'll make your whole trip all the sweeter. You'll be glad you learnt 'Jo takk, bare bra. Og du?', which is how you say 'fine thanks, and you?'. 'Unnskyld!' ('excuse me') is another one you may need.

If you're heading to Uloya on the 17th of May, get ready for some festivities! Constitution Day sees crowds of locals joining together to celebrate.

Before you pack up and say "Ha det bra", why not spend the remainder of your holiday allowance and treat yourself to some souvenirs of Uloya?

Situated 70 kilometres to the west is Langnes Airport (TOS), the nearest terminal. Make sure you give yourself enough time to reach it.
