Things to Do in Timaru

You can start your Timaru holiday at lots of local sites, but we recommend the coast. Turn up at Caroline Bay Beach for a swim, or reenact your favourite Baywatch scene on the sand. Like we said, we would never judge. If it’s your inner art critic that you want to feed, stop off at Aigantighe Art Gallery. Of course, there is plenty of public art on display in the form of Edwardian and Victorian architecture. Don’t forget to stop at the botanic gardens to sniff the roses or lounge beneath a shady tree. Leisure looks good on you. Once the day is done, hotels in Timaru make it easy to relax and recharge.

Getting To & Around Timaru

Kicking off your Timaru holiday is pretty easy thanks to the Richard Pearse Airport (TIU), which is just 13 km from the center of town and has regular flights to and from Wellington. Churchill International Airport (CHC) is also 160 km away, and has flights from loads of cities. After a car or bus ride to your Timaru accommodation, you’re ready to start living on what we like to call “holiday time” (it’s a little bit slower and involves more wine). Once you’re in Timaru, you can get around via taxi or metro bus.
