Well, the hotel is in an excellent location! Very clean! However, there is an elevator but you have to climb a spiral staircase of 15 steps, carrying your luggage, to get to it!! That should be made clear on this site.
The best thing about Hôtel Cathédrale is its location — literally facing the Strasbourg Cathedral. From the front door, you step right into the heart of the old town. The tourist train stop is right outside, and it’s just 8–10 minutes’ walk to the boat tours and around 20 minutes to the train station.
My room was small but cozy, very clean, with a comfortable bed and well-equipped bathroom. The only real issue was access: I had to carry my heavy suitcase up a flight of stairs to reach the elevator, and no staff offered to help, either on arrival or departure — which was disappointing.
Still, the location makes this hotel special. Just wish service matched the setting.
The hotel is literally across the cathedral. Excellent property and extremely helpful staff. They also keep you bags on hold so that you can explore the area after checkout. There are restaurants around the area-better for breakfast but in the evenings they require reservations (nothing to do with hotel). I would stay here again because of the location and friendly staff.
Property is in terrible shape. Best comparison for rooms are the rooms at run down motels back in the US. Booked for 3 nights but checked out after 2 nights. Couldn't take it any more. Staff was courteous and tried their best to help. But the musky almost mold like smell in rooms was too much for us to take.
I am not sure how this hotel got a 4 star. Given the condition it is a 2 star at best.
The staff was friendly and helpful during the stay. The heat would not turn off one night and they immediately fixed it. The location cannot be beat especially during the Christmas season!

The gentleman who checked us in was a little standoff-ish but everyone else was very nice/friendly.
Breakfast was excellent, lots of choices. The dinning room was beautiful and we had an excellent view of the cathedral and Christmas markets, etc.
Our room was on the third floor, but getting to the elevator was on the second floor up a narrow and winding staircase. It was a little challenging for my mom with her bad knees, but the building is old and may have had limitations for elevator access when installed. Our room had 2-3 steps up to the entrance door, a flight of steps to our first bedroom/bathroom, and another winding staircase to the second/third bed in the attic area. I found it charming, but it was certainly not accessible for those with mobility concerns.
The location cannot be beat, the building has a lot of character.
Location for the Christmas markets is excellent with the main market square of the cathedral outside the hotel. The rest of Strasbourg markets and sights are all within short walking distance - train station 10
Min walk, boat tour pier 5 minutes, nearest tram 5 mins
