Forgetting to turn up to your performance review is a pretty big sign that you need a holiday. So why not step off the beaten track to Songgun and experience the appealing beaches of South Jeolla? (The only thing you'll need to remember is how to chill out!)

It's situated 360 kilometres to the south of the country's capital, Seoul.

There's no need to go too far afield to discover some splendid natural sights. Jump in the car and head in the direction of Dadohae-haesang National Park, 30 kilometres away from Songgun, for a laid-back day. Or maybe Yudal Mountain is more to your taste? You'll find it 45 kilometres away.

If you have a little extra time to spend, you might like to visit Jindo Mysterious Sea Route.

There's even more just down the road. Haenam, 20 kilometres to the northeast, is popular for the Haenam Uhangri Dinosaur Museum and Haenam Institute Culture. Alternatively, if Dorisan Observatory and Dadohae National Park are more your thing, go 20 kilometres west from Songgun to Jindo.

Approximately 45 kilometres to the north, Mokpo is a place chock-full with things to do. The National Maritime Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, the Mokpo Modern History Museum and the Korean National Maritime Museum are all pretty close. Keep in mind, the Mokpo Natural History Museum and Mokpo Bridge may be more your style.

When it comes time to unleash the adventurer within, get ready for some mountain climbing. That said, there aren't many better ways to explore the wonder of the region's landscapes than with a little hiking.
