Sénanque Abbey was the highlight of my France trip. My friends and I purposely decided to make our trip around the end of June which is the start of the lavender season. Good enough there were in bloom in the region!

This butterfly was so hooked to the lavender like me.

It was definitely a trek to get here when you don't have a car. I stayed in Marseille and did a day trip to the abbey and then hiked to Gordes. From Marseille, there is a train to Cavaillon and from there, there is one bus that goes to Gordes. Pro tip: do not go on weekends, no bus runs. This one bus doesn't run on the weekends so we hit a big dilemma on how to get to the abbey. We asked the information booth at the train station if there are taxis around. She said yes but, since it was around 1 pm that we were waiting, they are not in the lot because it's coffee time. She looked very serious saying that. True with her word, one pulled in a couple of minutes after. We asked him if he can take us to the abbey and pick us up at Gordes. He was happy to drive us to and from.

At the abbey, oh yes, lavenders. Fields and fields of lavenders. There is also an area of lavender that's fenced right in front of the abbey. It's most likely private just for the monks. There is a shop there where they sell everything lavender and souvenirs. There weren't that much insects and bees which is a good thing. The scent was faint through the breeze and very pretty to see rows of bloom.

Sénanque Abbey is a Cisterian abbey where the monks who live there tend bees and grow lavender. The abbey houses people who wants to do spritiual retreats. Visitors are welcome to tour the inside but they should have the correct dress code. There is a poster in the front door for guidelines. Beside the entrance is the shop where they most likely sell the goods from the raw products that the monks produced.
