Holidays in Satuk

Yep. We understand. Wanderlust — it gets right into your bones. So, isn't it high time you planned your next adventure? Satuk awaits!

It's located 340 kilometres northeast of the country's capital, Bangkok.

Spend a day kicking back at Khao Kradong Forest. You'll find it just 45 kilometres out of Satuk. Breathe in the clean air and take some time to unwind.

Sports supporters don't need to worry about being left out in the cold during their visit. I-Mobile Stadium is 45 kilometres away in Buri Ram and a fantastic place to get your sporting fix. Be sure to check the event calendar to see what's on.

Suan Pa Dong Kheng Park and Khu Muang District Office are not far from the middle of Khu Mueang, 25 kilometres to the west of Satuk. Why not go there and take a look?

Heading to Surin? This destination is 50 kilometres to the southeast. If you're staying here a little while, get a map and circle the Wat Burapharam, Sura Wittayakarn School and Surin Plaza. Also consider taking a peek at City Pillar Shrine and the Surindra Rajabhat University.

'There is no love sincerer than the love of food,' according to George Bernard Shaw, but add travel to the mix and it's a marriage made in heaven. You're invited to combine your two loves by eating and drinking your way across Buri Ram.

Traditional cuisine here tends to include dill and sticky rice, two of the staple ingredients for which the region is known for dishing up.

When in Satuk, dine like a local. That means trying a plate of tom saep (hot and sour meat soup) or koi pla (spicy raw fish salad), a couple of the area's distinctive dishes.

If you're all about dessert, you're not going to be disappointed. Be sure to order kraya sat (rice cake), a tempting treat that's guaranteed to satisfy your sugar cravings.

Knowing how to say a couple of words in the local tongue will make travelling through the Buri Ram region that little bit easier. First of all, try to pronounce 'Kŏr hâi dern taang doi sà-wàt-dì-pâap'. This translates as 'have a nice trip'. One more to commit to memory is 'Mâi khâo jai', meaning 'I don't understand'.

Be sure to mark the 5th of December in your schedule. To the locals, this means just one thing — Birthday of King Phumiphon. An important day of festivities, this is an excellent time of year to check out the country.

You may be poor in Thai baht by the end of your trip, but you'll be rich in incredible experiences. "Læ̂w phb kạn h̄ım̀" Satuk!

When it's time to fly off, make sure you have enough time to get to Siem Reap International Airport (REP). Sitting 220 kilometres to the south from the centre of Satuk, this is the closest terminal.
