It won't take long to reach the centre of Santa Marta from El Castillo - Adults only and Alma de Ojochal (although with beds as cosy as these, you shouldn't be surprised if you end up running a little behind schedule!)

Alternatively, you could stay in San Vito, 65 kilometres to the southeast of Santa Marta, where you'll find the Cascata Del Bosco and Las Cruces Biological Station. Golfito is situated 65 kilometres from Santa Marta and has a population of 7,000. When you're in the area, you'd be mad if you didn't have a squiz at Refugio Nacional de Fauna Silvestre Golfito, Parque Nacional de Fauna Silvestre Golfito and Golfito Marina. Got more time on your hands? Take advantage of the photo ops at the Port Captain and Piedras Blancas National Park.
