You can find one the best cities in Bulgaria a mere day trip from Rila. Skopje is situated 150 kilometres to the west.

You don't need to be stuck in a car all day to soak up some nature. Just 30 kilometres out of Rila, Musala Peak is a lovely place to sit back and unwind. More picturesque surrounds are waiting for you at Vitosha Nature Park, 50 kilometres away.

Rila Monastery and Church of Rozhdestvo Bogorodichno are a couple of religious sites that are worth making time to visit.

Nothing beats getting up with the sun making your mark on a pristine slope at Bansko Ski Resort. After you've conquered all the runs there, pack up your gear and challenge yourself to the next set at Borovets Ski Resort.

Seize the opportunity to go to other nearby attractions, such as the American University in Bulgaria and Church Vavedenie Bogorodichno. You will find them 16 kilometres southwest in Blagoevgrad. Don't want to head back to your hotel just yet? Malyovitsa Ski Resort and Tsarska Bistritsa are in Govedartsi, 25 kilometres to the northeast of Rila.
