Or, you could stay in Whitianga, 35 kilometres to the southeast of Port Charles, where you can choose from the Sovereign Pier on the Waterways and Admiralty Lodge Motel. While in Whitianga, don't miss the Purangi Estate-The Purangi Winery and the Captain Cook's Memorial.

Thames can be found 70 kilometres from Port Charles and has a population of 7,000. When you're there, you'd be crazy if you didn't have a squiz at Hauraki Rail Trail Thames, Goldfields Shopping Centre and the Thames Historical Museum. If you're in the area for a bit longer, keep the good times rolling with a visit to the Treasury and the School of Mines & Mineralogical Museum.
