The property itself is beautiful. I had an issue with customer service when I tried to change rooms because I was located on the ground level. They told me I had to wait until the next morning to come by the office to see if any other rooms were available. If they were available I would have to check out at 11:00 and wait til 3:00 to check back in. That’s so ridiculous. Instead of the hassle we just toughed it out. The customer wasn’t considered first in this situation. The food was not good at all at the buffets. This resort is a 5 star but it doesn’t meet it’s status. I was disappointed in my stay there. Most of the staff spoke little to no English and it was difficult communicating. Please implement and improve your customer service department!!!

I must say I’m not usually one to write reviews but this one is necessary. A monkey pooped on our balcony and we asked them to have someone clean it and never sent anyone. So needless to say we had to look at poop on our balcony all day and night. We asked the front desk for a plastic bag for wet clothes their response was we don’t have any bags. The overall appearance of hotel was mediocre at best. The welcoming staff told us they would walk us to our room and didn’t. We got out of sight of the front desk she proceeded to talk us she doesn’t go any further and pointed to where our building was.

This was a very nice hotel, the staff were extremely friendly and the pools were very clean. The main buffet had many different options, and for dinner you have the option to make a reservation at their restaurants just keep in mind men have to wear dress pants. Our first room had cockroaches but the staff were able to accommodate us to a different building the following day and we no longer ran into that issue. For the day of my actual birthday, we came back from our excursion and a small cake was waiting for me in the room which was the nicest little detail. There is a lot of wild life which is amazing to see, monkeys, lizards, parrots, ant eaters, deer, etc!! Overall this was a very nice stay, we enjoyed our time!!!

We used to love Occidental when we first visited about 5yrs ago. We loved that for the price you got enjoy a very nice place filled with lots of nature and animals. This past time we went we did not have the best experience. Some of the staff was not as friendly as we remembered yet still expected tips. For example we went to eat at one of the buffets, our waiter never came to ask what we wanted to drink( they were not super busy), she kept making eye contact with us but looked like she purposely avoid getting to our table. So I got up and went to the bar to ask for our drinks, they told me our waiter would be with us shortly. I explained that we were more than half way through our meal and nobody had gotten to us. Then I got drinks for our table. We finished eating and waiter still didn’t check in on us until the very end to ask if we wanted more drinks. Needless to say this is probably the last time we will be staying here.

The property itself is basically in its own ecosystem/jungle. There are lots of animals which is fun. The buffet offerings leave a lot to be desired. It is tough to get reservations for the à la carte restaurants. The pools and pool bars close at 6pm. This was quite an inconvenience. There is a "sports bar" open late but that is obviously not kid friendly. If you are looking for a resort directly next to Xcarat that is affordable but lacks amenities and decent food you may like it.

Overall, we had an amazing time at this hotel. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the check-in process was quick. The meals were as expected, but I wouldn’t recommend wasting your ala carte ticket on the Mexican restaurant’s awful food.

The hotel was trying to sell us a timeshare or membership. It was annoying. Also we couldn’t get reservations at restaurants. Men had to wear pants at restaurants which we thought was silly given how hot it was.
