We had an excellent stay. An à la carte breakfast/lunch option would be nice in addition to the buffets. We loved being right next door to the park. The pools were beautiful and kept very clean. Lots of wildlife and a beautiful resort.

We were in building 22 (Expedia). Andrea was amazing in assure everyone in our group had everything we needed! This is my third time to Xcaret, and it was the best time! The buffet food was amazing and even better, we thought, than the a la carte restaurants. They now have a kids splash pad and playground our 3 year old adored. The monkeys and other animals were all over the place and very interactive! The beach was perfect for a toddler. I highly recommend this hotel for your Playa del Carmen visit!

The facilities were located right in the jungle. It’s great because you get to surrounded by animals (monkey, coatis, iguanas, and macaws) and nature. There were a couple of Mayan archaeological sites as well. Beach is nice and safe for the kids.

We really liked staying at the Occidental. It is huge, it was busy but somehow, it is so well designed that it never felt crowded. We were very surprised by the additional fees to be charged at check in ($750 pesos) (why not give a heads up from Expedia or in advance?), and disappointed in the lack of communication by the hotel when we repeatedly asked, months ahead of our stay, for adjoining rooms but managed on day 2 to change rooms to be close TO OUR CHILDREN instead of down the hall. Thank god for David at the front deck as Lily did not help the night before but ignored our ask. But once that was settled - we loved the hotel, the food, the cleanliness. We do think we were a bit hoodwinked by the Chichen Itza trip - which was promised as a 3hr to Chichen trip but was 5 hours to get there because of multiple buses. We would return to Occidental.

Everything was very good. It is far from the airport so book a shuttle. The food was average but edible and service was good. If you want beach, maybe stay closer to the core of Cancún. The lagoon and snorkelling were wonderful.

The proximity to the park was great. And the cleanliness of the room was awesome! They cleaned every day sometimes twice and i have never had so many towels at a hotel before. All the staff were really nice and happy to help.

Staff was 100%. Drinks were amazing! The taco stand was at 100% every single night. We went during Christmas Eve. The buffet was done up nicely. Bathrooms always clean. Tons of walking, which could make or break some nights missing the cart. Towards the end of stay we had a pretty big massive trip coming from the ceiling. That was leaking quite a bit of water. And the jetted tubs looked outdated in full of caulking. And there was a lot of wires showing. During the walkway, which isn’t a big thing but it’s a very nice resort that cleaning up the ugly would make it 100%.

room was very dated, no towels in room, phone plug in room didnt work, wouldn’t let you check in till exactly 3p, property was nice and waiters were courteous. Beach bars didnt open to 11 am and closed at 5:30p. Poor selection of drinks offered (lowest grade). Overall, will not return

I don’t like to complain but I had a bad experience in Occidental hotel in Cancun the AC made so much noise I couldn’t sleep. The second night my room was flooded because the AC was accumulating water around and water was coming from the wall. My close got ruined when I told the front desk they took long to come and fix it. They didn’t offer to dry my clothes so It ruined my activities planed for the day because we didn’t have any dry clothes. I Thing the amount of money I pay I will expect to have a better experience. I plan this Christmas vacation for my daughter with so much passion but it wasn’t how I planned. One star is a lot for my bad experienced.

I stayed with my family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens). Overall, our stay was great. There was plenty to do: nature trails, pools, beach volleyball, activities, nightly performances, and of course, the beach. Just a few things we wish could be improved: 1. Food: meats, no matter how they was cooked, were too dry and overcooked. We were hoping for better at the Steakhouse, but even after ordering our steaks to be medium, they came out well done. Also, taste for most foods were just ok. I’ve had better tasting food at other resorts. Nothing in particular stood out. 2. It would be nice to have a place where we can grab quick food/snacks any time of day. The restaurants were only open during the three typical meal times. Like if we wanted an afternoon snack by the pool or in between afternoon activities, we had to put on cover ups and go to the buffets. 3. The beach volleyball court is in an excellent area, but it would be good if they put a thicker layer of sand; as there is concrete underneath! Players cannot dive for the ball! I scraped my knee

The property is great! Animals and plants. The food is mediocre but fine. They don’t have chicken strips but if your kids like hot dogs and hamburgers then they will always have something. The beach is the best with no seaweed!!

Was a really nice resort- some staff really friendly - some not. We were a vit surprised they were not on top of the garbage, given the amount of wildlife. People surrounding us were really loud a la carte restaurants were not great.
