Holidays in Phillip

Fernweh, FOMO, wanderlust. Whatever you like to call it, there's only one way to solve it — get going to Phillip. No matter what type of adventure you're craving, this Canberra 'hood has lots going for it. One of the best parts of travelling is the people you meet on the way. And with 370,000 people living in the capital of Australia, there's tonnes of opportunities to make some new BFFs. To get to Phillip from Canberra International Airport, catch a taxi, dump your bags in the boot and head 10 kilometres to the southwest. If you're coming from central Canberra, you'll need to make your way 8 kilometres southwest.

A good deal of this city's attractions are sprinkled near Phillip, and Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial are some of the most outstanding. Don't forget to put the National Gallery of Australia and the National Museum of Australia on your schedule too. A brilliant way to get a deeper understanding of this city is to visit some of its neighbourhoods. So why not take off to nearby Garran and Mawson and explore their unique charms?

There are endless reasons why so many people throng to the centre of Canberra. The National Zoo and Aquarium and Telstra Tower are just two of them. To get an even better feel for the area, also look around Old Parliament House and the Australian National Botanic Gardens.

Check for forthcoming events before making your way over to check out the displays and exhibits at the Questacon, the Museum of Australian Democracy, the Australian Federal Police Museum and Canberra Railway Museum.

Up for a few rounds of golf? Get into a pair of khaki slacks, shine your clubs and get set to do your best Tiger Woods impression at the Royal Canberra Golf Club, the Capital Public Golf Course and the Federal Golf Club.

Kids tend to have fun in the most surprising places. Indulge them with visits to the National Library of Australia and the Royal Australian Mint.

Get outdoors and get lost in the views at Dalhousie Mound Springs, Arkaroo Rock and the National Rose Gardens.

Head out to Cotter Reserve and Canberra Nature Park. If you're lucky, you might even catch sight of some of the local critters!

Something unique about this suburb is its nearby public parks. Amid all the activity, you won't struggle to find somewhere to take a short walk or read a book. Weston Park and National Arboretum Canberra are some good options.

The shopping experience is what you make it. Whether you know what you're after or just doing a bit of impulse buying, you'll have a great time at Kingston Shopping Centre, Manuka Shopping Centre and Kingston Mall.

Wander back though the mists of time at the Albert Hall, High Court of Australia, Calthorpes' House and Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area. These age-old attractions have a range of intriguing stories to share.

The ACT Baha'i Centre, Greek Orthodox Church of St Nicholas, Canberra Baptist Church and the Canberra Mosque offer sightseers a chance to better understand the region's religious side.

Don't miss out on an opportunity to visit the sporting hub of Manuka Oval. Grab tickets to a live game of cricket in your blue and yellow and watch home team the ACT Comets in action. Alternatively, come down and cheer on the GWS Giants or the Eastlake FC, two other teams who call this stadium home.
