Been up 'til dawn way too often lately? Dying for a break and a few quiet nights? Onsan-eup might just be the ticket. It sits among the coastal plains, rivers and streams of North Gyeongsang — nice and not too touristy. (We bet you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the doona by sunset!)

It's situated 310 kilometres to the southeast of Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

Keep a sharp lookout for seashells to collect or try to spot small animals like starfish and crabs at Haeundae Beach and Gwangalli Beach. You'll find these glorious strips of coastline 35 kilometres and 40 kilometres away, respectively.

The calming sounds of nature await you at Gyeongju Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. It lies just 45 kilometres away, so you won't need to be on the road all day. Gyeongju National Park, 45 kilometres away, is another recommended option.

For a bit of exercise and the opportunity to frame up some terrific holiday snaps, make sure you go for a walk around Ulsan Grand Park.

Nothing compares to the atmosphere of a live soccer match! Watch the Ulsan Hyundai FC lock horns with the opposition on their home turf at Munsu Cup Stadium, a terrific venue 11 kilometres away in Ulsan.

If you want to expand your horizons, add a jaunt to Ulsan to your plan. This place is 6 kilometres to the northeast and is the home of the Ulsan Museum and Taehwa River Grand Park. Want more ideas? Yangsan is 25 kilometres to the west of Onsan-eup and is proud to offer the Tongdosa Temple and the Naewonsa Temple.

The Gyeongju National Museum, Bomun Lake and the Bunhwangsa Temple are all very close to Gyeongju, 40 kilometres to the north. Want more reasons to stop by? Gyeongju World Culture Expo Park and Royal Tomb of Queen Seondeok are not far away either.

Onsan-eup's nearest terminal is Gimhae Airport (PUS). When you're ready to pack your suitcase and fasten your seatbelt, head 45 kilometres to the southwest.
