Japan's capital city, Tokyo, sits 800 kilometres to the east of Onoda.

Is there anything more soothing than listening to the sounds of the ocean next to the water? Make your way to Iwaya Beach or Momochi Beach for a fabulous day out.

Mother Nature's artwork is yours to explore in many places around Onoda. Just 40 kilometres away, Hiraodai is a great place to start. Sugao No Taki Waterfall sits 40 kilometres away and is another favourite spot to enjoy some peace and quiet.

On a clear, sunny day, Ryuozan Park is a terrific place for a picnic and some exercise.

If you can't imagine a getaway without some live sports action, see what events are on at Ishin One Hundred Year Memorial Park. It's likely something will be on during your visit. You can locate the venue 30 kilometres away in Yamaguchi.

There's even more just down the road. Ube, 9 kilometres to the east, is popular for Tokiwa Park and Ejio Park. Alternatively, if Road Station Kikugawa and Kawatana Onsen are more appealing, travel 25 kilometres northwest from Onoda to Shimonoseki.

Spend a while wandering around the Kyushu National Museum, Dazaifu Tenmangu and the Komyozenji Temple. All of these sights are not too far from the middle of Dazaifu, 80 kilometres to the southwest. If you're after more, the Kanzeonji Temple and Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine ought to also be on your itinerary.
