Nong Ki is a place with loads of cool stories to tell. If you think your life's been a bit vanilla lately, a trip here is the perfect answer!
It lies 250 kilometres to the northeast of the nation's capital, Bangkok.
Spend a while admiring Mother Nature's handiwork at Phanom Rung National Park. This charming natural sight sits just 45 kilometres away from Nong Ki.
Travel 25 kilometres to the southeast and you'll come across Nang Rong. It's known for some fantastic sights, including the Wat Klang Nang Rong Temple and Thetsaban Nang Rong Health Park.
Spend a while walking around the Khao Kradong Golf Club, Khao Kradong Forest and the Chang International Circuit. These sights are all quite close to the middle of Buri Ram, 60 kilometres to the northeast. If you're after more, Robinson Buriram and Buriram Castle should also feature on your to-do list.
Tickets? Check. ID? Check. But have you brought your appetite? With some fantastic food and drink to indulge in around here, it's the one thing you won't want to travel without.
Looking for an introduction to the local food? We recommend trying dill and sticky rice, two staples which go into dishes here.
No food-obsessed traveller would visit Nong Ki without tucking into a handful of the classic dishes, such as tom saep (hot and sour meat soup) and koi pla (spicy raw fish salad).
'Stressed' spelled backwards is 'desserts', and we don't think that's a coincidence. There's no more scrumptious way to wave goodbye to your worries than with kraya sat (rice cake), a treat often found on dining tables here.
You're going all the way to the Buri Ram region, so why not put in a bit more effort to learn a few expressions and greetings in the local language? It's bound to make your experience that little bit sweeter. First off the bat, try to pronounce 'Kŏr tôht'. It means 'excuse me'. 'Kòp kun man' ('thank you') is another one you may need.
If you've got the good fortune to be in Nong Ki on the 5th of December, get ready for some festivities! Birthday of King Phumiphon sees many of the locals joining together to celebrate.
Before you say your final "Læ̂w phb kạn h̄ım̀" to Nong Ki, check your pockets for any remaining change that you can spend on some last-minute memorabilia.
Siem Reap International Airport (REP), the nearest airport, is about 200 kilometres to the southeast from the centre of Nong Ki. Map a route, pack up your suitcase and set an alarm clock — and don't hit the snooze button too many times!
