Beware of scamming! We booked this hotel via Expedia and paid in full prior to arrival. When arriving, staff were rudely on their phones and we waited minutes before they acknowledged us standing at the desk waiting to check in. They asked for a damage deposit which we were happy to pay but tried to charge us the full amount of our stay again. After challenging this and highlighting their policy, it was reduced to $150, which was taken rather than held.
We went to our room which was fairly basic but ideal for the stay and in a good location, hence why the 2 stars was given.
When leaving, we were told the amount would be refunded in 7–10 days, we waited 20 days with no refund. I emailed the hotel who claimed it had been refunded to a card number which wasn’t ours but was advised it was refunded to Expedia. Expedia confirmed otherwise and contacted the hotel who told Expedia they hadn’t refunded the money yet. We were told to call the hotel and after hours on hold, was told this was on hold with our bank and we should contact our bank. After contacting the bank, they advised this was not the case. We had to call the hotel again and were this time told they can see the deposit hasn’t been returned to us and they will look into this and call us back same day which didn’t happen.
Eventually, after the 6th contact, threatening legal action, we received the deposit back, 5 weeks after checking out.
Due to this, we won’t be using Sonder again and would warn anyone about this.
