Holidays in Moksin
We get it! The sound of that plane overhead released the explorer within, right? Then a trip to Moksin might just sort you out! From here, you'll be able to venture off the tourist trail a little and explore the pleasant beaches, coastal plains, rivers and mountains of South Jeolla.
It sits 340 kilometres to the south of Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
You'll find an assortment of nice natural attractions close to Moksin. Why not head 30 kilometres to Wolchulsan National Park? Alternatively, experience some of nature's finest artwork at Yudal Mountain, 35 kilometres away.
If you're contemplating travelling further afield, go 2 kilometres northwest to Ongam. This is where you'll find Haenam Munhwa Yesulhoegwan Daegongyeonjang and Haenam Institute Culture. We also recommend heading to Haenam, 7 kilometres to the northwest, for the Haenam Uhangri Dinosaur Museum and Crystal Bowling Center.
Tourists and locals alike often make the trip to Mokpo. This place is 35 kilometres to the northwest and close to the National Maritime Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, the Mokpo Modern History Museum and the Korean National Maritime Museum. If you're planning to stay a while, don't forget about the Mokpo Natural History Museum and Mokpo Bridge.
For something more adventurous, you could check out the region's mountain climbing options. Or perhaps hiking is more appealing? Whichever you opt for, you're sure to have a fun time.
Sticking to a busy travel itinerary can sometimes leave you exhausted. Why not head into the great outdoors and spend a leisurely afternoon picnicking or beach combing?
Practise one of your hobbies or try out something new in the waters around South Jeolla. You'll discover plenty of exhilarating watersports on offer, including swimming and boating.
Spend a bit of time indoors exploring the wonders of the region's history museums and craft workshops.
If it's not raining cats and dogs, why not investigate the surrounding area's gardens?
Get a better sense of the region's history by exploring the surrounding castles, traditional villages, old towns and fortresses. If a tour guide isn't available, do some research of your own.
Whether or not you follow a faith, stopping at one of the surrounding churches and temples is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the area's religion.
Eating is among life's greatest pleasures, and since you're here, we guess you think travel is too. Combine your appetite for both by heading out and sampling the local food and drink at a few of the restaurants, cafés and bars in town.
Once you stop and scan a menu at a café or restaurant, you'll quickly realise that pork and beans are a couple of ingredients commonly used in local cooking.
No true foodie would leave Moksin without eating a couple of the classic meals, such as bibimbap (sautéed vegetables on rice) and jeonju bibimbap (sautéed vegetables on rice).
Still got a bit of give in your waistband after dinner? Then put in an order for bungeo-ppang (red bean filled pastry), an indulgent dessert.
You won't get the full travelling experience until you've tossed back the local brew. Whether you're looking to quench your thirst or get a bit of liquid courage to mingle with new friends, ask for Prime Max.
Cheongju (rice wine) is the spirit of choice for most locals in South Jeolla. Ask your barkeeper for a shot and relish that warm glow!
Don't forget to pencil the 15th of August in your calendar. To the locals, this means just one thing — Liberation Day. An important day of celebrations, this is a wonderful time to visit the country.
Muan International Airport (MWX), the closest airport, is some 55 kilometres to the north from the middle of Moksin. Map out a route, pack up your suitcase and set an alarm clock — and make sure you don't hit the snooze button too many times!
