If you venture 110 kilometres of Matemwe, you'll find yourself in the significant city of Dar es Salaam.

Make sure you bring some sandwiches so you can indulge in a relaxed bite on the shore at Nungwi Beach or Kendwa Beach.

You won't have to be stuck on the highway all day to experience some nature. Just 5 kilometres out of Matemwe, Mnemba Island is a great place to enjoy some fresh air. Even more peaceful surrounds are waiting for you at Prison Island, 35 kilometres away.

Into stopping at Mapenzi Beach and Kiwengwa Beach? They're near the middle of Pwani Mchangani, 6 kilometres to the south. Alternatively, you could go to Kendwa. It's 12 kilometres to the northwest of Matemwe and known for Mnarani Natural Aquarium and Diving Poseidon.

Whether it's for shopping or to explore the sights, locals and visitors alike often take the trip to Zanzibar Town, 35 kilometres to the southwest. The Slave Market, Old Fort and the House of Wonders are close by. That said, you wouldn't want to pass up Christ Church Cathedral and Forodhani Gardens either.
