Been burning the candle at both ends? Desperate for a break and a few early nights? Manan might just be the ticket. It's set among the beaches, coastal plains, rivers and mountains of South Jeolla — nice and off the beaten track. (We reckon you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the blankets by sunset!)

It's located 340 kilometres to the south of Seoul, the national capital of South Korea.

The soft sounds of the natural world are waiting for you at Wolchulsan National Park. It sits just 30 kilometres away, so you needn't be stuck inside a car all day. Yudal Mountain, 40 kilometres away, is one more popular option.

Expand your horizons and see what's going on in Ongam, 5 kilometres to the northwest. Plenty of visitors come here for Haenam Munhwa Yesulhoegwan Daegongyeonjang and Haenam Institute Culture. Alternatively, Haenam is 10 kilometres to the northwest of Manan. Swing by this destination for access to the Haenam Uhangri Dinosaur Museum and Crystal Bowling Center.

You may get the urge to book a room in Mokpo for a little while. This place is 40 kilometres away and not too far from the National Maritime Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, the Mokpo Modern History Museum and the Korean National Maritime Museum. Other nearby attractions are the Mokpo Natural History Museum and Mokpo Bridge.

An exciting way to discover the greater region is to embark on an outdoor adventure. Mountain climbing is one of the most popular activities in these parts. But if you'd rather try something else, there's always hiking.

From the centre of Manan, it's around 60 kilometres north to Muan International Airport (MWX). This is the nearest airport. Make sure you allow yourself a bit of extra time to make your way there so you don't miss your flight home.
