The good thing was that it was close to restaurants and some store. The supermarket is only a couple of blocks away. There is a plaza 30 min waking distance full of more restaurants and stores. The bad thing is that restrooms are shared in common area. Unless you get a private room. Area was safe. It was the cheapest hitel i found thsts why i booked it. I would only book again if the price went down.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
My single with bath at Gran Hotel had very good lighting in the room; the room was cleaned daily; the staff was extremely friendly (but you need to speak Spanish, of course); and the place is quite atmospheric and in a great location.
It is 150 years old, and the building needs work, but that is why it is a budget hotel.
Liked it was closer to airport and plaza
Bed sheets and comforter too old, needs replaced.
Was too cheap, meant for local customers not foreign tourists.
Anything but luxurious, yet it has character. I'd take it over posh Miraflores. You have the traditional market instead of the slick mall. Chinatown. Bustle and grit.

Clean, nice garden, but rudimentary facilities. Very noisy.
Obviously a one star. Made more miserable and damp by the weather but the only good thing going for this place was its proximity to the historical centre.
The Grand Hotel is very rustic for sure.
I'm trying to be fair. After all I did choose to stay there, but a night was enough. Two nights a mistake. At night you feel very isolated here. Having come from Rio, I was certainly not as impressed with neither the hotel or Lima. Now in Machu Picchu. What a relief!
The hostel itself was fine for backpacking, although not many travellers from outside of South America stay there. The hotel was in a bad area to be at night and didn't really feel safe to explore from after dark. For a feeling of safety, I would recommend staying in Miraflores
I checked in and immediately decided not to stay. The building is very old with gaps in the walls and ceiling. The doors/locks don't seem very secure. Everything is very loud from the traffic outside. The room smells like gasoline fumes. I paid for the first night as I made the reservation but did not stay any longer. Staff was nice from the brief amount I talked to them.
Was just staying here for one night after completing hiking the Inca Trail and getting back from Cusco before heading back to the States the next morning. My group had almost a full day in Lima before we left the next morning, so we decided to pick a location closer to the center of Lima. The didn't feel entirely roomy, but we didn't care to much since it was only for one night. If you want to sleep at night, DO NOT STAY HERE. This hotel is located off of a major road, and between the thin walls and the Peruvian drivers who honk their horns nonstop, it was not the most relaxing sleep. We had to wake up very early (~2:45 am) to catch a very early morning flight back to the states, and paid 40 soles (~12.5-13.5 USD) for to get to the airport. If it wasn't because of the location of the hotel, I would recommend this place.

Great value.
Hotel was in Central Lima where there are supermarkets, stores, restaurants, and basic services.
I was not expecting much for the price but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the internet and the hot shower...
Very cheap place in an old building in Lima Centro. Everything is old and not in great shape, but it is fine for the price. Located on the border between the historic center and Chinatown very close to Plaza de Armas and most central sights. One disadvantage is that the hotel is right on Av. Abancay, which is a big street with heavy traffic and it is pretty loud. The staff was very helpful and accommodating.

Great Value, Good Location
This hotel is in a great location for exploring historic Lima. You are right on the edge of some pedestrian avenues which felt safe for walking fairly late.
I got exactly what I needed here - private room and bath for a minimal charge. It was the least expensive hotel I could find that was close the historic core.
Best of all is that this place is really funky. Another review mentioned that it was like a Salvador Dali painting. I've got to agree with that. All the doors are way over scaled and there are so many bizarre color combinations throughout. I counted eight different colors in my room. I loved how unapologetically quirky it all is.
Overall, my room was clean, my shower was warm, and my experience with the staff was great.
All that said, realize that you will be staying in a very old place that is fairly worn, but not worn out.
very magic atmosphere. I loved staying there. It was like moving 100 years back. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Good economy hotel close to historic district
Had staff on late which wa great because we flew in at midnight. Our room was large with private facilities. But shared facilities would have been fine as well as everything is clean. Wifi worked. Hot water sometimes. Would recommend.

You see the price now set your expectations
My expectations were low, so the hotel was ok in that respect. The big problem is that if you find yourself in Miraslobes, the upscale area, you will not be able to find a cab back to the area of the hotel, even at 5pm which was the time I started looking for one. Everyone had me convinced that I was going to be robbed, so it was unsettling. However, nothing happened but it was quite an ordeal getting back to the hotel.
Gran Hotel in Central Lima had one positive factor. The location is near the Plaza de Armas in central Lima. However, the hotel had several cons which would not warrant a revisit. First, the hotel did not feel safe nor did I feel my things were safe in the hotel room. Second, the staff's friendliness and helpfulness depended on who was working at the front desk. Third, taxis to the airport through the hotel charged more than taxis from the airport. Finally, the hotel claimed to be renovating the hotel so it asked for reviewers to be kind in reviews except there did not appear to be any ACTUAL attempt to actually renovate the hotel in order to enhance the aesthetics or service. The hotel is best for those looking for a cheaper hotel option.
Its terrible, I was so cold at night and cant sleep all night because they did not provide enough blanket and the weather is so cold, and the worst thing is the hot water heater is not working properly so I had to take a shower in the very cold night without hot water.
