Myanmar's capital city, Naypyidaw, is located approximately 330 kilometres to the south of Kyaukme.

Spend a laid-back day at Sunset Hill. It sits just 30 kilometres away from Kyaukme. Fill your lungs with the clean air and take a moment to simply slow down.

We also suggest jumping in a car and making your way to Hsipaw. It's some 30 kilometres to the east and the home of the Mahamyatmuni Paya and Central Market.

Want to go and see the Pyin Oo Lwin Golf Club, Chan Tak and the Candacraig Hotel? They're all near Pyin Oo Lwin, 80 kilometres to the southwest. Circular Road and the National Kandawgyi Gardens are also close by and ought to be in your travel plans.

Imagine yourself with a mighty set of wings as you reach unbelievable heights. Daredevils can get their kicks by going hot air ballooning.

Are you into spending time by the water? Add a little more excitement to your trip with a little swimming or scuba diving.

Our schedules often rely on the weather, but luckily that isn't the case with every attraction. Rain or shine, head over to the region's history museums, art galleries and craft workshops whenever you like.

Refresh your mind at some lovely outdoor attractions. The surrounding area boasts a wide assortment of open-air markets.

The region has a rich and varied past. Spend a day visiting a few of the surrounding ruins and historic palaces. Don't worry if you're struggling to find information available online — the locals will no doubt have a few yarns to share!

If you're searching for an experience beyond the physical world, consider swinging by one or two temples and monasteries. It's a delightful opportunity to explore some of Kyaukme's beliefs.

Your eyes shouldn't get to have all the fun while visiting Myanmar. Give your taste buds a little attention as well by sampling the local food and beverage offerings. After all, you haven't really experienced a destination until you've tasted its flavours.

If you're browsing a menu, there's every chance you'll come across dishes featuring ngapi (fermented seafood) or a thoke (salads). They're two ingredients which are often used in the cooking here.

No self-respecting food fan would visit Kyaukme without tucking into a few of the specialty dishes, such as tea leaf salad and shan-style rice (fish rice).

If you're not one to skip dessert, you should definitely indulge in some halawa (sticky rice, butter and coconut). This sweet treat sums up the region in just one mouthful.

Celebrated throughout the whole country, Independence Day takes place on the 21st of March. If you're lucky enough to be here at this time, it'll be hard not to get swept up in the exciting atmosphere!

Mandalay International Airport (MDL), the nearest airport, is just 140 kilometres to the southwest from the middle of Kyaukme. Plan a route, pack up your suitcase and set your alarm clock — and be sure not to hit the snooze button too many times!

"This place in remote Hsi-Paw was one of the highlights of our trip to Myanmar. Only gripe: not staying longer. Attentive staff and beautiful site. Each bungalow has a lovely seating area looking out at the river. Just gorgeous. Good value for money. Be aware that your driver needs to take dirt roads ..."
