Holidays in Kintai

Relaxation. Adventure. Relaxation. Adventure. Off to Kintai but can't decide what type getaway you want? Don't get in a fluster! We'll help sort it out.

It lies 270 kilometres west of Lithuania's capital, Vilnius.

There is a variety of nice natural attractions surrounding Kintai. Why not take off 13 kilometres to Kursiu Nerija National Park? Alternatively, take in the different sights and sounds of Vente Cape, 9 kilometres away.

Are you a keen sports fan? Then take a look at the event schedule at Klaipėda Švyturys Arena, located 30 kilometres to the north in Klaipeda.

Travel 15 kilometres to the west and you'll stumble upon Neringa. It's popular for some fantastic attractions, such as the Amber Museum and the Neringa History Museum.

Plan on going to Klaipeda? This place is 35 kilometres to the north. If you're staying here a while, make sure you visit Theatre Square, Klaipeda Castle and the New Ferry Terminal. Also consider stopping in at History Museum of Lithuania Minor and Old Ferry Terminal.

If the kids are getting bored with sightseeing, why not take them out for a leisurely day of cycling or camping?

You don't have to be a bird to glide over the landscape below. Hot air ballooning is a brilliant way to see a whole lot more of the place.

Sure, it's lovely to be by the water's edge, but it's a great deal more fun to be in or on it! Make the most of the opportunity to have a shot at the region's fabulous watersports, such as swimming and canoeing.

There's no knowing just what you'll come across behind the doors of the region's history museums and art galleries, but you can be sure it's going to be interesting!

Take a relaxed walk and feel the sun on your face at the surrounding area's open-air museums and open-air exhibits.

Get a glimpse of the past with a visit to the area's old towns and historic palaces. When it comes to understanding the historical significance of these structures, a professional tour guide can make a world of difference.

Yearning for some calm? You might just find what you're looking for at Kintai's churches.

Eating is among life's greatest pleasures, and since you're here, you probably think travel is too. Combine your love of both by getting out and sampling the local food and drink offerings at the bars, cafés and restaurants in town.

Want to try some of the regional cuisine? We recommend tasting potato and rye, two traditional ingredients which make up some of the dishes here.

Of course, you can't leave Kintai without sampling juoda duona (black rye bread) or saltibarsclai (beetroot soup). Popular with residents and considered regional classics, they are a must-try experience for anyone who loves food.

We don't think you'll need too much persuading to indulge in some kūčiukai (baked rolls with poppyseed milk), a dessert that'll make you want to sever all ties and settle down here forever.

Trejos Devynerios (liquor infused with 27 flavors) is the spirit of choice for most locals in Lithuania. Order a shot or two to get the night started!

Work on the language barrier by learning to say a couple of words and expressions in the local tongue. You'll gain a more enriching experience and a few new friends while you're at it! To get you started, try to get your tongue around 'Aš iš ...'. This translates as 'I am from..'. 'Atsiprašau!' ('excuse me') is another one you might need.

Plan to be here around the 16th of February? Luck is on your side. On this date each year, the nation comes together for Independence Day.

Before you say "Pasimatysime vėliau" to Kintai, check your pockets for any remaining change that you can spend on some last-minute keepsakes.

When it's time to pack up your bag and take off, the nearest terminal, Lech Walesa Airport (GDN), is 210 kilometres to the southwest.
