Holidays in Kazungula

Kazungula is a place with loads of cool stories to tell. If you think your life's been a bit dull lately, a trip here is the perfect answer!

It sits 410 kilometres to the southwest of Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia.

There's no need to travel for hours to enjoy some wonderful natural sights. Dig out your car keys and follow the road signs to Zambezi National Park, 45 kilometres away from Kazungula, for a laid-back day. Or perhaps Chobe National Park - Sedudu Gate is more your style? It sits just 25 kilometres away.

If you're looking to head further afield, add a trip to Kasane to your plan. This destination is 19 kilometres to the west and is home to Impalila Conservancy and the Kazungula Crocodile Farm. Need some more ideas? Mambova is 20 kilometres to the west of Kazungula and is proud to offer the Mowana Golf Course and Impalila Pier.

Livingstone sits 50 kilometres from Kazungula and is an essential part of the local region. Surrounding attractions include the Railway Museum, the Livingstone Museum and the Maramba Cultural Museum. Still got some time to kill? Mosi-oa-Tunya Game Park and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park are also within easy reach.

You won't find a better way to wander through the surrounding area than on a stimulating adventure. Join in on a bit of bungee jumping or abseiling and get your heart pumping!

For those wanting to get outside and get wet, why not dive into one or two watersports like rafting or canoeing? All that's required is some sun cream and a sense of fun.

Eating is among life's greatest pleasures, and since you're reading this, we guess you think travel is too. Combine your fondness for both by going out and sampling the food and drink offerings at a handful of the bars, cafés and restaurants in town.

A standard meal here tends to include millet and mutton, two ingredients for which the local region is famous for plating up.

While you're in Kazungula, you should eat like the locals do. That means tucking into a plate of cooked freshwater fish or ndiwo (relish from meat and vegetables), a couple of the area's signature dishes.

'Stressed' spelled backwards is 'desserts', and that's no coincidence. There's no more delightful way to say goodbye to your worries than with golabjamoun (sweet potato, flour and milk), a treat often found on dining tables here.

Good news, beer lovers. You'll discover some flavoursome bews to drink up here. Relax with a glass of chibuku in a comfortable bar and remember to text your mates back at home, 'Wish you were beer'.

Held on the 24th of October, Independence Day holds an important place in the locals' hearts. It offers a wonderful opportunity to learn about the nation's history and have a little fun while you're at it!

Security checks, long lines and even longer waiting times. Airports are often very taxing. Give yourself ample time to get to Lusaka International Airport (LUN). Located 430 kilometres to the northeast, this is the closest terminal.

Beautiful location, but rooms too rustic
"Our stay at Tongabezi was for five nights and it was a fun time due to the great surrounding area. However, the lodge was more rustic than we expected - our booked rooms (half time at Tongabezi and half time at Sindabezi) did not have enclosed bedrooms (i.e. the room had curtains at least for part ..."
