If you're headed to Hortobagy, bear this in mind — hotel options in the vicinity are as thin as the hair on your great uncle Percy's head!

However, Balmazújváros does have a range of places to catch some Zs. You'll discover it 17 kilometres from Hortobagy. Among the best hotels are the Aurum Hotel and Hotel-Platán.

Debrecen is another place where you can kick back and get to know the room service menu. Located 40 kilometres east of Hortobagy, it's where you'll find the City Park and Protestant Great Church. Debrecen accommodation options are the Hotel Divinus and Aquaticum Debrecen Thermal and Wellness Hotel. 65 kilometres to the north of Hortobagy you'll find Tarcal, which is home to the Andrassy Rezidencia Hotel Wine and Grof Degenfeld Castle Hotel. Great location, breakfast Buffett was good. We stayed three nights. Staff at check in were great, although they did not offer upgrade for being platinum member with Expedia. Housekeeping did not do a great job and missed to clean our room for one of the nights. Alex at front desk was very kind and changed our room and offered an upgrade. We really appreciated this. We were able to get 2 hours late check out which was very much appreciated. Bar staff at night were super helpful and provided us with ice bucket, wine glasses and such. Overall very clean hotel and great service. Walking distance to many restaurants and transportation.
