Sure, you can stick with just exploring central Dusseldorf, but you'd be missing out! To get a true sense of the city (and avoid FOMO), take a detour into Holthausen — a suburb located 6 kilometres to the southeast. To get there, the closest airport is Duesseldorf International Airport. Once you've stretched out those kinks, picked up your bags and adjusted to your new surroundings, head 12 kilometres to the south.
With a great deal of the city's best sights close by, Holthausen is a wonderland for sightseers. From Duesseldorf City Hall to the Museum Kunstpalast, you won't run out of things to keep you busy. Don't forget to put Rhine Tower and Benrath Palace on your checklist as well. While you're here, consider going to some other neighbourhoods to see more of what Dusseldorf offers. Wersten and Eller are some great areas that are within easy reach.
With plenty of impressive attractions packed into the centre of Dusseldorf, your sightseeing schedule could get rather busy. Neuer Zollhof is just one you should make a beeline to.
Broaden your knowledge of the area at the North Rhine-Westphalia Art Collection, the Heinrich Heine Institut, the Mahn- und Gedenkstätte für die Opfer des Nationalsozialismus and the K20 K21 Art Collection. These cultural attractions come highly recommended!
Unwind while you potter through the thought-provoking art on display at the Kunst im Tunnel, the K21 Staendehaus and the Kunsthalle Duesseldorf. Afterwards, why not hit up a local café and muse over your time there?
Check for forthcoming events before making your way over to study the displays and exhibits at the German Ceramic Museum, the Heinrich-Heine-Institut, the Classic Remise Duesseldorf and the Elvis Presley Exhibition.
One of the gauges of a great show is often how loud the applause is when the curtains go down. See the audience rise to their feet at the Capitol Theater, the Kommoedchen, Mitsubishi Electric Hall and the Dusseldorfer Schauspielhaus.
Are the kids getting tired of all the sightseeing? Have some time out and visit some of the action-packed family attractions you can find nearby. Freizeitpark Niederheider Waldchen and Freizeitpark Ulenbergstrasse are some much-loved options.
If you're blessed with terrific weather, get into the fresh air and delight in the beauty of nature at Duesseldorf-Hafen and Museum fur Europaische Gartenkunst.
A charming feature of this suburb is its nearby green spaces. In the midst of all the action, there are plenty of spots to relax and read a book. Zonser Grind, Himmelgeister Rheinbogen, Uedesheimer Rheinbogen and Volksgarten are some good options.
Sometimes the best way to get the feel of a new place is by strolling around the shops. Be sure to stop by Marktplatz, Wochenmarkt Carlsplatz, Stilwerk Duesseldorf and Kaufhof.
Wander back though the mists of time at Gehry Buildings, the Goethe Museum, the Duesseldorf City Museum and the Wilhelm Marx House. These age-old sites have plenty of interesting stories to tell.
Backpackers and shoestring travellers can relax. Budget rooms await at the ACHAT Comfort Köln/Monheim and the DJH City Hostel. These digs are proof that terrific service doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg. Though, if you're the type who likes to spare no expense on holiday, THE RED or the Breidenbacher Hof, a Capella Hotel will be more up your alley.
