Location, location, location!!! That's why we chose this hotel and it was ideal for the 9 of of us to explore Halifax by foot, especially the waterfront. One thing worth noting is that we drove an oversized vehicle that had to be parked blocks away in a public lot. That was not as convenient.

Past its prime

The Barrington seems past its prime. The TEMPO restaurant was particularly disappointing: over priced and not open after brunch on Sunday(???) Some pealing wallpaper and a murky indoor pool contributed to my kids’ general lack of enthusiasm about our stay. My husband was unhappy that our car parking was further from the hotel than the restaurant we had dinner at. The saving grace was that the beds were comfortable.

The hotel was generally well maintained and the staff was friendly, but the services were lacking. Just powdered coffee in the room. No bathroom fan, so the bathroom got impossibly wet and steamy after a shower and you couldn’t see in the mirror to get ready. The toilet wouldn’t flush unless you held the flusher down for a full minute, and the tub drained so slowly, you were standing in three inches of water by the time you finished washing your hair. Also the window curtain situation wasn’t great, so the room was very bright in the morning. (No sleeping in.) But it was a very small window so it was hard to see to get ready in the morning with no overhead ceiling light. (Had to put makeup on in the main room due to aforementioned lack of bathroom fan problem.) Was an adequate stay, but could have been better.

The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location however if location is the most important you can find another hotel close by. No parking on site and it costs us 47.50 to park from 4pm-8am!!!! We had to leave once to get water because there are no vending machines or stores in the hotel that sell water. The front desk does have a little fridge but it is outrageously price. We asked for an early check in and they acknowledged saying they would try but it is not guaranteed, we were unable to check-in early - no big deal HOWEVER we then didn't get checked in till about 4pm. Their front desk is a mess! No one knows what they are doing there seems to be 10 people working and no one knows anything or it seems like no one is doing anything even though there are so many people waiting for help. The lobby is the nicest part of the hotel, the rooms are really dated and musky. The pool is extremely small and dirty... The water is cloudy in the pool and no hot tub. Save your 350 and choose a better hotel, we will NEVER go back it was such a bad experience.
