While there aren't a lotta accommodation options in Esmeraldas, you'll find there are 11 digs within 30 kilometres of the centre.

Check out Cabanas Isla del Sol and Hotel Costa Paraiso. They're as close as you'll get to downtown Esmeraldas.

Unfortunately, there are just a handful of cheap accommodations for thrifty travellers. Of these, Hostería San Fernando - Hostel is up there with the best.

You might also like to consider staying at the Hotel Puerto Ballesta, which is located 25 kilometres from central Esmeraldas. The Chill Inn is a good backup, just 25 kilometres away.
