Holidays in Emmaus

It's a no brainer — an adventurous life is a life well-lived. So grab your passport, pack your things and say hello to Emmaus!

It's 150 kilometres to the northwest of Moscow, the capital of Russia.

Whether you're eager to spend most of the day on the black runs or the beginners' slopes, you'll love the fresh powder at Stepanovo Ski Resort.

There's even more just around the corner. Kolesnikovo, 10 kilometres to the west, is known for the Tver State University and the Mikhail Krug Monument. Alternatively, if Park Pobedy and the Tver Regional Drama Theatre sound better to you, head 13 kilometres west from Emmaus to Andreykovo.

Whether it's for a spot of shopping or to take in the sights, visitors often make the journey to Tver, 15 kilometres to the northwest. Tver City Park, the Museum ME Saltykov-Shchedrin and the Monument to Michail of Tver are all close at hand. That said, make sure you don't pass up the Tver City Museum and Exhibition Centre and Tchaikina Museum and Expo Center either.

Spending time in the open air does wonders for your well-being. If you're feeling a little frazzled, why not slow down and go bird watching or wildlife watching?

Whether you're splashing about in it, drifting on it or whizzing across it, not much beats spending an afternoon by the water. You can try out a variety of watersports here, including canoeing and boating.

See what's happening at the region's art museums, history museums, craft workshops and theaters. There are a few to choose from, so it pays to do your research!

Rejuvenate your mind with the help of some lovely outdoor attractions. The surrounding area boasts a nice range of open-air museums.

If you're hoping to get a glimpse into the region's past, why not tour some of the nearby ruins, traditional villages, old towns, historic bridges and historic mansions? Do some research beforehand to help fully understand their historical significance.

If you're searching for an experience that goes beyond the material world, you might like to visit some local churches, cathedrals and monasteries. It's an excellent opportunity to find out about Emmaus' religious beliefs.

To really experience a destination is to sample its food and drink, so get set to nibble, gnaw, slurp and sip your way through Tver Oblast. The only thing you need to take with you is a good appetite!

Are you eager to know some of the essential ingredients that are used here? You should be prepared to taste rye and oats in quite a few of your meals.

Because a life without dessert isn't worth living, you should definitely acquaint yourself with lymonnyk (lemon pie). This sweet treat sums up the region in just one bite.

To beer or not to beer? Of course, the answer should always be beer. While you're in this corner of the world, Baltika Premium Lager is the one you want.

You're travelling all the way to Emmaus, so why not put in a bit more effort to memorise a few words in the local tongue? It will make your whole trip all the sweeter. 'Očen' prijatno' is how you say 'pleased to meet you'. There's also 'Dobryj večer!' ('good evening').

If you're lucky enough to be in Emmaus on the 12th of June, get ready to kick up your heels! Russia Day sees crowds of people joining together to celebrate.

Before you pack up your belongings and wave "Poka!", why not spend the last of your holiday allowance and buy yourself some souvenirs of Emmaus?

With some planning, making your way to Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO), the nearest airport, shouldn't be too much trouble. It's approximately 120 kilometres southeast of the centre of Emmaus.
