Disappointing celebration stay.

Our room was a spacious “club” room looking out towards a large courtyard area. It was far too cold to explore outside! I had reserved and I had paid for four “club” rooms as this was a celebratory occasion for my wife’s 80th birthday. Reception were very helpful in providing one twin room, at check in, which I had originally requested. The heating in our elder son’s room was not working properly and although reception undertook to resolve this the room did not achieve an acceptable temperature until breakfast time! He has independently taken this up with management after our departure. The buffet style breakfast was of excellent quality and well presented. The staff were courteous and helpful. We had intended to take dinner in the restaurant. Regrettably the menu, although extensive, did not provide suitable choices for several of our family. Too many of the offerings were not unadulterated, the exception being fish & chips which was hardly a celebratory dinner! I was advised that the menu provided was dictated by Head Office - clearly they need to address this! We therefore were obliged to eat elsewhere which was not the same as eating in the hotel restaurant and partially defeated the purpose of our stay. From this experience I would not choose the Crown Plaza group for any future celebration. Although children were accommodated they were poorly catered for regarding use of the swimming pool -only available during breakfast or after 6p.m. - during dinner time!

Kitchen closed, club room poor, room cold

Unfortunately after a few stays I decided to take my husband away for his birthday, on arrival we found a used glass in our room. We booked the club room and after using this in many Crown plaza we were looking forward to it, we arrived at around 17:15 and most the food put out was gone but we knew this would be replenish, it wasn’t, no one came back and we stayed until 19:45! Total waste of money. We decided to get room service and I double checked with reception to be told it ends at 21:30 I said we would go to the spa and be back to order at around 9pm, we went for a swim to get out appetite ready, jacuzzi at most was warm, we rang to order at 21:05 to be told the kitchen was shut! We had to order a take away and not being local didn’t know where to start and then had to wait over an hour for it! The room was incredibly cold! I had to sleep in my clothes, every time we increased the temperature it went back to 28•c and believe me this was not the temperature! Even my husband who’s always hot said it was too cold, i was incredibly upset by our stay and wish we had stayed at home for the cost of the room

Lovely experience at the hotel

We spent a night at this hotel to be able to catch an early-morning flight at Gatwick the next day. It’s only 15-20 min drive from the long stay car park of the north terminal. Our room was clean, modern and had everything we needed. We particularly liked the restaurant/bar and the swimming pool at the hotel. The food was delicious. The pool was clean and had a nice jacuzzi, a sauna room and a steam room. Using the pool must be prebooked but is only a phone call away. The staff members at the hotel were friendly and courteous. Overall, our experience at the hotel was highly positive.

Spa was very noisy with children and very busy. Not relaxing at all. Room request was for a quiet room and room was facing main road, not soundproofed, over the main Reception entrance and with a very loud boiler noise continuously coming from the bathroom.
