However, Lochiel does have a handful of places to spend your nights. It's about 30 kilometres from Coolangubra. A few recommended hotels include the Best Western Fairway Motor Inn and Beach Cabins Merimbula.

Among New South Wales' gorgeous natural wonders are its rural landscapes, beaches and coastal plains. After you've gotten all zen in Mother Nature, check out history museums and craft workshops. More active travellers can also have a crack at snowboarding, skiing and mountain climbing.

Millingandi is another place where you can kick back and acquaint yourself with the room service menu. Located 35 kilometres east of Coolangubra, it's where you'll find the Merimbula Aquarium and the Tura Beach Country Club. Millingandi hotel options include the Hillcrest Motor Inn and Norfolk Pine Motel Merimbula. 40 kilometres to the east of Coolangubra you can also stay at Pambula, home to the Penguin Mews and Comfort Inn Merimbula. If you're staying in Pambula, set aside some time to check out the Merimbula Imlay Historical Society and Merimbula Marina.

Get a ride 40 kilometres east and you'll find Eden, a regional centre with a population of 3,000. While you're checking out this neck of the woods, get your tourist on at Rotary Park, Aslings Beach and Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre. The Eden Killer Whale Museum and the Eden Golf Course are a couple more sights that are sure to offer up some envy-inducing photo ops. There are a great selection of hotels and lodgings in Eden, with the Coachman's Rest Motor Inn and Bayview Motor Inn topping out the list.

After being squashed in a cabin seat all night, a nice comfy bed at the Bayview Apartments Merimbula will feel heavenly! If it's chockers there, suss out the Beaches Apartments Merimbula. Both are pretty much on the doorstep of Merimbula Airport, which is 40 kilometres from Coolangubra's centre.
