Holidays in Chilikino

When chucking a sickie becomes way too simple, it's time to take a break from the corporate treadmill and say hello to Chilikino!

It's situated 95 kilometres southeast of Moscow, the capital city of Russia.

Spend your time moving between the glorious snow and a seat beside the fireplace at Kant Ski Slope and Guy Severin Ski Club. From new recruits to pros, there's something to please everyone at these winter paradises.

How do you like the sound of the Stupino Museum of History and Local Lore and Propeller Monument? These sights are in Khochemy, just 17 kilometres southwest of Chilikino. Or perhaps Kolomna Kremlin and the Museum of Russian Marshmallow are more your thing? To see them, head to Luker'ino, 18 kilometres northeast.

Keen to check out Trinity Church, Staro Golutvin Monastery and the Monument to L Type Steam Locomotive? They're all not far from Kolomna, 25 kilometres to the east. Church of Nikola Posadsky and Novo-Golutvin Holy Trinity Monastery are also close by and should be on your itinerary.

See the region's terrain from a different angle and partake in some ice skating or hiking. They're both well-loved activities around here.

Our itineraries are often at the whim of the weather forecast, but thankfully that isn't the case with every attraction. Rain or shine, check out the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries, craft workshops and theaters whenever you like.

Go on a leisurely walk and feel the sun on your face at the surrounding area's open-air museums and gardens.

If you have a keen interest in history, you're bound to love the local old towns, historic mansions, historic palaces and war relics and monuments. Do a little research before you go or enlist the services of the nearest tour guide.

Experience the area's spiritual beliefs and traditions by organising a visit to its churches, cathedrals and monasteries. Take some time out to quietly reflect or simply observe the locals in prayer.

Your eyes shouldn't have all the fun while you're in Moscow Oblast. Give your taste buds a little loving too by indulging in the local food and beverage offerings. After all, you can't say you've really experienced a place until you've tasted its flavours.

A traditional meal here often includes rye and oats, two commonly used ingredients for which the area is famous for serving up.

It won't take much to persuade you to try lymonnyk (lemon pie), a treat that'll make you want to start a new life here.

For those who love a good pint, head to the nearest bar and request Baltika Premium Lager. Enjoy a glass with a side of storytelling and mixing with the locals.

Don't let any cultural barriers get in the way of a fun holiday! Make your visit to Moscow Oblast a more rewarding one by memorising a few phrases in the local language. 'Prasti!' can be very useful. It's how you say 'sorry'. Another common phrase is 'Otkuda ty?' ('where are you from?').

If you're considering checking out Chilikino in June, you'll want to be here on the 12th for Russia Day. There's always lots of excitement coming up to this national day of festivities.

It's always sad to say "Uvidimsya pozzhe" to Chilikino, but don't worry, it's not going anywhere!

Metal detectors, long lines and delayed flights. Airports can be very taxing. Give yourself enough time to head to Domodedovo International Airport (DME). Located 55 kilometres to the northwest, this is the nearest terminal.
