Holidays in Chengui

Your last proper holiday feel like it was an eternity ago? Simple — book a ticket to Chengui and you'll be off before you know it!

The nation's capital city, Beijing, lies approximately 1,100 kilometres to the north of Chengui.

The comforting sounds of the natural world await you at Huangshi National Mine Park. It lies just 20 kilometres away, so you needn't be stuck inside a car all day. Yinshui Cave, 50 kilometres away, is one more recommended option.

If you have enough time, why not check out some close-by destinations? Huangshi and Ezhou are 25 kilometres and 30 kilometres away, respectively.

You may get the urge to set up camp in Wuhan for a while. This place is 75 kilometres to the northwest and not far from the Flood Protection Monument, the WuHan KeXue JiShuGuan and TuChangLi ChenLieGuan. Other nearby sights are the WuHan YuanLin ZhanLan ZhongXin and the WuHan JieShui KeJiGuan.

Cycling is a brilliant way to take some time out after a few busy days of sightseeing. If you feel like spending more time outside in the fresh air, why not think about going wildlife watching as well?

After spending a day snowboarding, you'll deserve to warm up in front of the fire. If you're not too worn out the next day, try your hand at skiing.

Would you like a bit of vitamin D? Think about planning a trip to one of the surrounding area's gardens.

If you're keen to learn more about the region's history, plan an excursion to a few old towns. Get your map, do a little research and choose the most interesting one.

If you're seeking an experience beyond the material world, consider checking out some local temples and monasteries. It's an excellent opportunity to explore some of Chengui's religious traditions.

Whether you prefer chasing Michelin stars or wolfing down a snack from a street cart, tasting the local food and drink is perhaps the best thing about travel. So why not tingle your taste buds by trying some of the area's delicious offerings?

Do you like fennel? What about chilli? Whether you're crazy about them or not, they are two key ingredients regularly used in dishes here.

Of course, you can't visit Chengui without tasting spicy chicken or pork stuffed snail shells. Popular with locals and considered signature dishes, they are a must-try experience for any food-loving adventurer.

Make use of the downtime on the flight over by learning a handful of words and phrases in the local tongue. 'Wǎnān' can be very useful. It's how you say 'good night'. Maybe you'll find 'Shēngrì kuàilè' a little bit easier to say? It means 'happy birthday'.

Before you pack up and wave "Huí tóu jiàn", why not spend the last bits of your holiday allowance and treat yourself to some mementos of Chengui?

The nearest terminal is Tianhe International Airport (WUH). When it's time to pack up your bag and take off, travel 100 kilometres to the northwest.
