Holiday In Cebu

A short one-hour flight from where the “Thrilla in Manila” took place is Cebu (pronounced si-bu), a lovely medium-sized island in the middle of the Philippines.

It’s surrounded by beautiful coral atolls perfect for diving, picturesque beaches great for doing nothing on, and waters loaded with sport fish. How can you get bored with all that? We don’t think you can, so browse our great packages to Cebu and dive in—but don’t hit a whale shark. You’ll understand what we mean when you read below.

Things to Do in Cebu

Just because you’re on an island doesn’t mean you don’t need a set of wheels, and lastminute.com.au’s Cebu car hire options are your best bet for getting around. Once you snag one, make your way to the town of Oslob and go whale shark watching. Heck, you can even go swimming with the beasts. Now, we know you’re thinking we’re nuts for telling you to swim with sharks, but these aren’t the man-eaters you see in National Geographic. These gentle giants leisurely cruise through the water sucking down krill, not people.

When you get back on land, pay a visit to the Cebu Taoist Temple, located in the Beverly Hills Subdivision—seriously, that’s where it is. Sign up for a tour so you can see the chapel, the library and a wishing well. Be sure to stop by the gift shop for a souvenir or two. Just make sure that you keep quiet during your visit—you don’t want to disturb the ornamental dragons. Legend has it they’ve sleeping for many moons. How bad would that be if you’re the one who finally wakes them?

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

It makes us so happy to see all the money you saved with our Cebu holiday packages. You’d make us even happier if you took those savings and went over to the SM City Mall and shopped until you dropped. Four levels with over 200 shops ensures you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. Another great place to splurge on yourself is in Mango Square. You’ll find more local chachkies than department store goods here, though.

How’s the food in the Philippines? Um, it’s fantastic…sometimes weird…but we’ll get to that later. Check out the Old Downtown area and test out the street food from the local hawkers. Get a mouthful of fish balls, spring rolls called lumpia, and fried plantains. Are you ready for the weird? Try an egg snack known as balut. It’s a pre-hatched duck egg that’s boiled and then eaten. You’ll definitely up the ante on your holiday in Cebu if you eat one of these.

If you’re wondering what to do at night during a Cebu holiday, follow along below. Cruise down Mango Avenue and party your way through the bars until you get to Mango Square. It’s not just market shops here, there’s discos, bars and lounges. If you feel like belting out a tune or two at a karaoke bar, there’s plenty of those as well. None of them care if you sing like William Hung.

What’s next?

How can you turn down a chance to go to the Philippines? More specifically to Cebu Island. Browse our unreal offers on Cebu packages and go play with whale sharks. We also have great deals on Manila holiday packages in case you’d like to spend some time in the capital. And who wouldn’t? This is where Ali–Frazier III went down!
