The staff at this hotel were amazing so friendly and on arriving and leaving they carried my luggage down the stairs as it was very heavy The hotel is in a great location for shopping and easy walking to the national express bus only 10 minutes as I needed to get to Heathrow The hotel needs a renovation but the bed was comfortable and the room was clean but the lace curtains really needed washing I also like that the room had a kettle tea and coffee and if I would stay again if I was ever in Cardiff

The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were polite and friendly. My only issue was that the bathroom had no extractor fan, so got extremely hot, but a little gripe that wouldn't stop me from staying again. It was great value for money.

Noise coming from the room next door all night tv was left on all night every nights during the stay. Breakfast was ok but sausages not good quality and bacon rock hard. No scramble eggs. No lift working for people with disability.

Pros: Very friendly staff. Spacious bedroom. Centrally located in Cardiff city and near the football stadium and restaurants/shops. Very reasonable price for room only. Cons: There is no hotel carpark and you should factor in parking in a nearby secure multistorey carpark. This cost me £32 per 24 hours. Apart from the grand entrance hall the hotel is looking very tired and needs investment.

I had always wanted to stay at this hotel after hearing so many stories of its past. Sure the grand old lady is a little faded but she has great atmosphere and I would much prefer to stay in a lovely and historic old building like this than a soulless box. The staff were a real credit to the hotel. They were so friendly and helpful. The location is superb and we had a fantastic view overlooking Cardiff Castle - so close we could almost touch it! I would definitely stay again.

Lift wasn’t working and we were on the third floor. Not ideal and would’ve been handy to have been told this prior to arriving as if we’d had my mother in law with us, which we almost did, she is disabled. Also, scaffolding outside the window banged all night making it impossible to sleep.

Staff were exceptionally warm and kind, the hotel is brightly lit but in warmer colours than more modern hotels which was easier on my eyes personally. Beautiful hotel directly across from the castle and at the edge of the arcades and shopping area, perfect for tourists
