Visiting the Site of the Battle of Hastings that took place in 1066, The crypt of the church is built over the site where Harold II was defeated. (allegedly shot in the eye with an arrow) This led to the beginning of the Norman conquest of England  and its history. Under the remains of the church are the amazing vaunted rooms of the dormitory in the east wing.

Good onsite parking within a very short walk to Battle high street and abbey but unfortunately the abbey park grounds were closed but none the less had a lovely pre Christmas one night stay at the Chequers, the food was of good quality both evening and breakfast, staff friendly and helpful, the room ...
