Enjoyable stay

My first stay at the Clayton Hotel, room was nice and clean, bathroom was clean too, easy check in on line with just having to pick up key . Got a wake up call to ensure I didn't miss my flight. Very impressed with restaurant, lovely staff, excellent service and my steak meal was cooked to perfection. Can certainly recommend The Clayton Hotel and will be staying again

This is a run down, smelly, and noisy old hotel that is not being properly maintained. The high rating makes no sense, and the high price is baffling.   Men's lobby bathroom has shower gel and hair conditioner instead of soap. On our floor it was very run down in hallways, especially the carpet which looks ancient. Our room had a slight smell of wet dog, and later bending down I realized the carpet just stunk of dog.  The room also looked dated, especially the bathroom where it again smelled like dog.  I'm not sure it'd actually been cleaned. In the main room, the counter was sticky, obviously not cleaned, and the drinking glasses were dirty, still wet from whatever was in them, with bits of something like fruit pulp in them.  At this point I was scared of touching anything in there.  I took pictures, it's too bad I can't post them. Desk lamp didn't work, one reading lamp didn't work, another reading lamp was physically sheared off, one USB charge outlet didn't work.   No Kleenex in the room or bathroom. Kettle only, no coffee maker, and that is ridiculous at this price level.  Two tea bags, two milk packs, and two no name instant coffee. And 20 packs of decaf. In the evening we could hear every word next door and upstairs every footstep boomed, like it was amplified. These rooms and the whole hotel is not being properly checked and cleaned. It still wouldn't be OK at 1/2 or even 1/4 of the price. It feels like someone at management level needs to care more.

Rooms are very dated, restaurant was outdated menu and like eating with your grandparents for food options. We had a terrible view of fans and generators which were noisy so had to close the window. Tired room with stains on the carpets and broken parts in the bathroom, such as ceilings and skirting boards. The location is ideally located to the airport and the free transfer to the airport was ideal, the driver who as retiring that day was so super friendly and helpful.

Be mindful that you'll need a shuttle bus or a taxi from the airport as I assumed that I could walk it. I was lucky to come across a shuttle bus going directly to it. Lovely hotel though. The staff are great and the rooms are clean and spacious.
