Holidays in Arguis

Cool! You've had your leave approved. Now all you've gotta do is wave goodbye to your boss and book a trip to Arguis — pronto!

From Arguis, head about 170 kilometres east to find the popular city of Andorra la Vella.

Head out of Arguis and you'll find some unique natural attractions. Just 50 kilometres away, Ordesa Y Monte Perdido National Park is a brilliant place to get a little fresh air. You also can't lose with Los Mallos de Riglos, 20 kilometres away from Arguis.

Looking for some thrilling soccer action? Then watch the Sociedad Deportiva Huesca, S.A.D face off with the opposition on their home turf of El Alcoraz Stadium, which is 20 kilometres away in Huesca.

Whether you're hoping to work on your turns or just get back to base in one piece, Huesca has the slopes you're after. Choose from Gourette Ski Resort or Candanchu Ski Resort.

Nueno, 11 kilometres to the east, is popular for the Golf de Guara and Ermita de San Miguel. Why not make your way there and see these wonderful sights? Or, go to Loarre, 14 kilometres to the west of Arguis, for Loarre Castle and Palace of the Marquis of Ayerbe.

Huesca, 20 kilometres to the south, may be worth a day trip. You can use it as a port of call when swinging by Huesca Cathedral, the Huesca Museum and the Art and Nature Center - Beulas Foundation. If you're still not convinced, other nearby sights include Abbey of San Pedro el Viejo and Colegiata de Santa María.

'There is no love sincerer than the love of food,' George Bernard Shaw once wrote, but add travel to the mix and it's a marriage made in heaven. You're invited to unite your two loves by eating and drinking your way around Huesca.

This region has some unique recipes centred on available ingredients and local tastes. You'll find olive oil and almonds are two staple elements in many of the dishes.

Of course, you can't head home from Arguis without introducing your taste buds to chireta (spanish haggis) or bacalao al ajo arriero (baked cod with garlic). Popular with locals and considered regional classics, they are a must-try experience for any self-respecting food lover.

You won't need too much convincing to order some bizcocho de calatayud (sponge cake), a dessert that'll make you want to pack your bags and settle down here forever.

Ask any seasoned traveller and they'll tell you that the simplest way to enhance your getaway is to try out a few of the local expressions and phrases. First off the bat, try to pronounce '¿Cuánto cuesta? '. This means 'how much is this?'. 'Buenos días', which means 'good morning', is also quite common.

If you're lucky enough to be in Arguis on the 12th of October, get ready to have a ball! National Day sees many of the locals getting out and about and celebrating.

Like all good things, your trip to Arguis will eventually come to an end. When it's time to pack up your belongings, say a last "Hasta la vista" and spend your remaining holiday allowance on some postcards to take home.

Blagnac Airport (TLS) is the closest terminal, 210 kilometres to the northeast. Ensure you have enough time to get there.
