Tired of scrolling through other people's holiday snaps while chowing down your brekkie? Then book a trip to Akrotiri and spend your days among the awesome beaches and mountains of Cyprus.

From Akrotiri, venture 55 kilometres to the west to get to Paphos, a prominent city. You can also head 75 kilometres northeast to spend some time at another great city, Nicosia.

Trachoni, only 7 kilometres to the north, is regarded for Limassol Castle and Kourion Ruins. You'll kick yourself if you don't see them.

While away a day picnicking on the shoreline at Finikoudes Beach or Lara Beach.

You don't have to be on the road all day to soak up some nature. Just 30 kilometres out of Akrotiri, Aphrodite's Rock is a terrific place to get some fresh air. More idyllic surrounds await at Mount Olympus, 40 kilometres away.

For an entertaining evening out, go to a show at the Curium Ancient Theater, a well-known local venue.

You might also consider Limassol Salt Lake. It's a nice place to explore if you find yourself in the area.

It's always hard to say "Yiá sou" to Akrotiri, but don't worry, it will still be there next time!

Security checks, delayed flights and long queues. Airports can be very taxing. Make things a little easier and give yourself extra time to make your way to Paphos International Airport (PFO). Located 45 kilometres to the west, it's the nearest terminal.
