As close to the action as you can get, Koyasan Syukubo Ekoin is a fabulous place to catch some Zs after a busy day of adventures.

The shuttle feature is great from the train station, although you need to plan ahead due to its limited availability. Taxi to the property was inexpensive and affordable from the train station as well. On suite onsen and private bath is a must have feature with a clear view to the river below and the forest. Dinner serve in room was beyond exceptional. Breakfast was a little disappointing but still good. Definitely making this place an annual tradition to revisit every time we're back in Japan.
