Do you spend more time off with the fairies than actually doing your job? Find yourself flicking through old travel snaps waayyy too often? Time for a Fukushima holiday. Accommodation options in Fukushima's downtown area are on the thin side. But if you're okay with a short drive, you can easily stay in one of the 3 digs within 10 kilometres of the action.
Two of the most central options available, the Chisun Inn Fukushima Nishi Ic and Hotel Sunroute Plaza Fukushima are fantastic places to kick back and relax after a full-on day of incredible adventures.
Unfortunately, there are only a handful of no-frills accommodations for thrifty travellers. Of these, Yoshikawaya is up there with the best.
Booking a room at the Best Western The Japonais Yonezawa is another option if you still haven't found a place to stay. It's situated 25 kilometres away from central Fukushima. Just 25 kilometres away, Hotel Route-Inn Yonezawa Ekihigashi is another hotel option for you to consider.
Beer or champagne? However you roll, you'll sure to love a trip to Kitashiobara, 30 kilometres away. With Nakatsugawa Canyon and Gran Deco Snow Resort to explore, you'll have plenty to keep you busy. If you want to spend a few nights in Kitashiobara, consider the Kyukamura Ura-Bandai and Urabandai Royal Hotel. Alternatively, you could stay in Zao, 40 kilometres to the northeast of Fukushima, where you can pick from the CHIKUSENSO Mt.Zao Onsen Resort&Spa and Miyagi Zao Royal Hotel. If you're staying in Zao, be sure to check out the Miyagi Zao Kokeshi Doll Hall and the Yajiro Kokeshi Village.
You'll come across some awesome activities in Yamagata. Senshinan, the Senshoji Temple and Momiji Park are among our top picks. This regional centre is positioned 50 kilometres north of Fukushima and has a population of 250,000. Bunshokan and Yudonosan Shrine are a couple more sights that are sure to offer up some envy-inducing photo ops. You've got a great selection of accommodations in Yamagata, with the Oohira Hotel and Comfort Hotel Yamagata at the top of our list.
Unless you're going to crash on the floor at Sendai Airport, it might be wise to book some accommodation. The Hotel Route-Inn Natori is pretty close by, or you could always travel into Fukushima's centre. It's 60 kilometres away.
