Why you should book a(nother) summer break

With the “back-to-work” blues in full swing after the food filled, too much to drink holiday season, I’m willing to guess you’re spending a fair bit of time dreaming about your next holiday… which doesn’t have to be far away! In fact, if you ask us, not taking a cheeky little break before summer is out is downright crazy.

Who better to help me convince you than my fellow travel-loving lastminute.com.au colleagues! Justifying going on holidays *ahem* all the time is what we do best.

My #1 reason to book a summer getaway stat: Cocktails. Simple.

When on holidays, every day is a cocktail day, and that’s always a good idea. After all, it’s not every Wednesday your beverage of choice has a rose in it 😉

Need inspo? Nobody does cocktails like a big city. Book that spontaneous flight to Melbourne or Sydney or Brisbane or if the budget doesn’t stretch that far, enjoy a CBD staycation with a night in a hotel in your own capital city.

Because all cocktails need a dramatic rose addition #cocktail #drinks #manly #happyhour

My #1 reason to book a summer getaway stat: One word – back-to-work blues (okay, that’s four words). The struggle is real, people!

There’s nothing worse than returning to work after an amazing summer holiday full of sunshine, adventures and midday naps, and facing the stark reality of not having another trip to look forward to. The only cure? Booking a holiday, now.

Need inspo? You can’t go wrong with a stay at the best boutique in the world, Saffire, which just happens to be in our very own Tasmania AND gives you a chance to eat freshly shucked oysters in the water while wearing super hot waders 😉

I can’t function without a trip on the horizon so I’ve booked a summer staycation at the super cool The Old Clare Hotel in Chippendale. Bring on cocktails by the pool!

My #1 reason to book a summer getaway stat: Endless adventure! Boo-yah!

I’d rather be sitting at a waterfall than in traffic. Nothing beats can top a summer holiday like a hike to a waterfall!

Need inspo? This is at the Ellenborough Falls in Eland which I visited over the break, definitely one of my new favourite locations in Australia! My hot tip: go somewhere new.

First week back at work + rain allover the place = Take me back to this place please! A photo posted by Semra (@semravdl) on

My #1 reason to book a summer getaway stat: Flamingo FOMO is real.

I’m not talking about the long legged, feathery kind, I’m talking about the inflatable summer must-haves filling up resort pools and beaches (and Insta feeds) everywhere. Summer holidays aren’t complete until you’ve lazed around in a resort pool on your new way of floating around.

Need inspo? Haven’t experienced summer on a flamingo? All the more reason to take another summer break!

My #1 reason to book a summer getaway stat: Health reasons, your doctor would agree!

There’s nothing like a healthy dose of vitamin D, salty hair, a belly full of food and a happy, relaxed mind to ensure a perfect start to the year. Nab a deal (with most people back at work, there are bargains to be had) and bring on the good mood and avoid becoming sad (and super pale) indoors.

Need inspo? Grab your friends and book a two or three bedroom self-contained apartment to save on costs AND bring the party with you.

My #1 reason to book a summer getaway stat: The dreaded peak-hour traffic.

Let’s be frank, traffic sucks. Wouldn’t you rather be lying on a beach, watching the sunrise from your high rise balcony or adventuring through rainforests? Everyone hates peak hour traffic (if you don’t there’s something wrong with you) so escape it for at least a few days while there is summer fun to be had.

Need inspo? If you book another summer break now, the gap between summer hols and the Easter break is even shorter 😉

My #1 reason to book a summer getaway stat: Beach beers are the best beers.

Beers on the beach are SO much better than coffee in the office. Don’t be a slave to FOTAL (Fear of Taking Annual Leave), why not take a week off before summer ends and spend it at the beach, drinking beer or cocktails? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! I’m sure your boss can be persuaded to let you take leave! (*cough* international rellies surprised you *cough*) 😉

Need inspo? Perfect beaches can be found anywhere on Australia’s coastline, there’s no excuses! 😉

My #1 reason to book a summer getaway stat: One Word – Limitless

You shouldn’t limits enjoying your summer break to the week or two around Christmas, it’s a three month affair people! So what are you waiting for? Live lastminute, be spontaneous and get out there.

Need inspo? There are endless possibilities of beautiful destinations to explore. Make 2016 the year you actually do it. There’s no better time to start than summer.
