W is for WOW | A Singapore Hotel Review
I love nothing more than the idea of relaxing on a sun lounger when I am on a resort holiday, occasionally dipping into the water when the sun gets a little steamy. And when I feel cheeky, I’ll swim across to the pool bar and get a cocktail or two. That fantasy became a reality when Glenn and I stayed at the W Singapore Sentosa Cove recently (our second time at this 5 star resort.)
Memories of our last stay in March 2015 still tingle our senses and Glenn and I want to revisit those luxurious pleasures to start off the New Year. While this trip is pure pleasure, I’m also lucky enough to collaborate with W Singapore for a 48-hour Instagram takeover. The resort is every Instagrammer’s dream and I can’t resist filling up my visual grid with the quirky and luxe approach that this global brand has become renown for.

We check into the Marvelous Suite and are greeted by chic-du-jour opulence and deco that makes one feel like Alice in Wonderland. Our jaws drop in slow motion as we walk into the bedroom and see the panoramic spectacle. The room has an view of the marina filled with million dollar yachts and on the other side, the marina extends out to the South China Sea and horizon where the sun sets.

While slowly bringing myself back to earth, Glenn yells from the en-suite. I brave myself for another “ermahgerd” moment and I’m not disappointed – there’s a tub close to a floor to ceiling window overlooking the marina. We don’t have a tub back in our Sydney apartment so this is like finding two diamonds in one day.

One of the main attractions at W Singapore is undoubtedly the main pool. This is where guests cool down from the sultry weather, either floating on bean bags, sunning themselves on deck chairs, splashing about like eager children or having Singapore Slings at the pool-side bar. This is also where the monthly pool parties happen where the young and hip let their hair down. Oh, and did I mention that it’s open 24 hours?

Like adults who never grew up, Glenn and I throw on our speedos and put on our water-bomb jump show for the guests. We also plant ourselves in one of the covered hammocks that are big enough for two and luxurious enough for modern royalty. These hammocks are highly coveted so we hang onto it until the sun sets before we stumble back to our room, after one too many Singapore Slings.

The whimsical theme of W Hotels extend to their culinary department and while we enjoyed the W Singapore high tea that is served in a bird cage during our last stay, this time we indulge in the ‘Seafood From The Heart’ buffet. A collaboration with renowned Australian chef, Peter Kuruvita, and The Kitchen Table, Seafood From The Heart is a smorgasbord of lobsters, prawns, crabs and oysters served in rich Asian spices and other cuisine styles.

W Singapore Sentosa Cove is an urban jungle where guests relax, recharge and daydream. When you first enter the resort, you’re greeted by a cascading waterfall of projected graphic patterns against pebbled walls made of natural wood. The innovative and peculiar installations continue in reception. During the evening, purple lighting comes on to signify night time.

It’s so difficult to leave when the time comes for us to fly to Taipei. The Marvellous Suite with its million-dollar view is one of the most memorable hotel rooms I’ve stayed in, in ages. I could easily wake up to it every morning but like most who have to work to pay bills, this is just a dream.

I have no doubt in my mind that we will make it a reality again so see you soon, W Singapore.
