Hotel review: Novotel Brisbane

If you’ve read many of my blog posts, you’d be forgiven for thinking all I do is eat. Case in point my recent trip to the Hunter Valley.Yes, it’s true. I have a slight obsession with all things food and wine.

The thing with such a ‘passion’ is that to avoid becoming the size of a house, Monday-to-Friday involves my fair share of carrot sticks, green tea and early mornings pounding the pavement. But hey, it’s a price I’m more than willing to pay for weekends of brie and pinot.

If you travel for work, you know the temptations of being out of your normal routine mid-week. Hello mini-bar, room service and sleep-ins! A lot of hotels don’t make it easy to keep it healthy but I’ve found one in the Queensland capital that does it extremely well: the Novotel Brisbane.

With spacious rooms, comfortable king beds, great service and a convenient location, the Novotel already ticks lots of boxes but here’s why it’s a dream for those looking to stay healthy while travelling:

An all-hours gym
On another trip to Brisbane, the hotel gym didn’t open until 7am, not exactly ideal for a work day. The flexibility of a 24/7 gym – with plenty of equipment and a poolside view – gets a big thumbs up from me.

In-room yoga
If the gym isn’t your scene, there’s yoga available through the TV in your room with mats available at reception. Get yourself in the right head space first thing, or de-stress after a busy day. Complimentary walking/jogging maps are also available if you’re after some fresh air.

A breakfast buffet to get excited about
Hotel brekkies can start to look a bit same-same but the Novotel’s offering is enough to get even the grumpiest morning person smiling. All the usual suspects are there but there’s also an organic corner with muesli, breads and other goodies.

Healthy options on the room service menu
If you want hot chips or a steak sandwich, I’m not judging. But the ‘Healthy Choices’ menu makes room service guilt-free and delicious. BBQ Pork Fillet on shaved fennel, celery and apple salad with a yoghurt and herb dressing gets my pick.

Take-away options
If brekkie to go is more your style, the Plan B café next door is a winner. I can vouch for the deliciousness of the fresh juices and avocado toast.

What are your top tips for staying healthy when travelling?
