Eats meets west #FoodPornEdition

Y’all know I like to eat, right? Well, I was #yoloing in Perth recently and the food just blew my mind. My Instagram was, like, literally in meltdown.

Perth has truly become an international city, and the food culture has helped to put it on the map. The luxe menus and revitalised spaces are total perfection and make my inner foodie *breathe heavily*.

Here are my top 5 nom-nominations for the best eats in the west.

Bathers Beach House, Fremantle

Bathers Beach House, Fremantle

Sunset over the Indian Ocean, Bathers Beach House

Bathers Beach House is Perth’s only absolute beachfront restaurant. It has a comfortable contemporary setting and, I promise you, enjoying a meal and a bottle of your favourite wine as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean is one of the best experiences Perth has to offer.

The menu offers traditional beach-side favourites – with some outstanding fresh seafood options – at very reasonable prices ($18-$32 for a main).

Oakover Grounds, Swan Valley

Oakover Grounds is a boutique vineyard slash coffee primer slash restaurant located in Australia’s first Humane Food Region, Swan Valley. I really enjoyed this space; it’s very family-friendly while also keeping the upcycled-hipster vibe that’s popular with younger crowds.

You can work up an appetite pedal boating on the lake or playing some backyard cricket on the grounds before sitting down to the biggest challenge of the day: trying to decide between the cold pastrami roll and the charcuterie plate ($18-$30 for a main).

The Trustee Bar & Bistro, Perth

The Trustee Bar & Bistro, Perth

The Trustee is located in the Brookfield Place Precinct, one of Perth’s most significant new food and shopping developments. Both the décor and menu are chic, while the service is friendly and welcoming. There’s a great variety of dishes available. We had quite a large party, so I got to see most of the dishes and they all look equally hashtagable ($25-$50 for a main).

Pro Tip: I found this place on a Small Bars Walking Tour. It’s a great way to uncover some hidden gems and learn a little about Perth on the way.

Bread in Common, Fremantle

Bread in Common, Fremantle

Bring me all the breads, Bread in Common

Bread in Common is a communal dining experience that will change the way you think about sharing a meal with your friends and family. The restaurant is set in a beautifully refurbished warehouse with some of the best lighting I’ve ever seen. Srsly, I’ve never looked more gorgeous. Lemme take a selfie.

The menu fully embraces local produce, which I really appreciate as a traveller. Their specialty is wood-fired bread. It’s made in-house over volcanic rock and it’s to-die-for. Pair your bread selection with the hand-churned smoked tomato butter and burned onion salt, and you will have truly lived life.

All the plates are saucy and designed to be shared. I can pretty much guarantee you’ll be taking advantage of the $2 per person unlimited bread supply. The Standard, Northbridge

The Standard, Northbridge

The garden bar and deck, The Standard

The Standard has used every inch of its industrial space to make you feel comfortable, from the high- back chairs to the friendly service. The owners have designed a whimsical fairy-light garden in the old car park, including a bar and deck constructed from an old shipping container. City views come gratis.

The menu is a fusion of urban tapas and fine dining without the high-end price tag ($12-$25 for a main). You’ll want to try several of these dishes, so why not order a couple of plates to share? The State Theatre Centre of WA is just 100 metres down the road, so it’s a great place to meet before or after a show.
