5 reasons to book a Winter getaway | Peppers Craigieburn

Sadly for us Summer lovers, Winter is here whether we like it or not.

As someone who usually tries to escape the chill, I’m often trying to come up with a plan of ‘how I can get myself to the nearest tropical island STAT’ come this time of year.

However, with a lack of annual leave on my horizon, yet a need for a mini-break fix, I decide to embrace my chilly side with a long weekend escape to a destination which truly does the whole Winter thing well: Peppers Craigieburn Bowral

Here are my top five reasons to book your Winter Retreat to Peppers Craigieburn ASAP:

1. You’ll feel like you’ve been whisked away to an English country manor.

After just a 1.5-hour drive from Sydney, we drive through the gates of Peppers Craigieburn feeling like we’ve been transported into an era gone by.

The heritage-listed homestead, built in the late 1800’s has been transformed over the years, however the elegant structure, old-fashioned verandah and the manicured gardens remain intact.

Fun fact: My Grandparents HONEYMOONED at Peppers Cragieburn back in the day!

2. It’s not just a pretty face

Peppers Craigieburn is definitely not just a pretty face. The décor inside is a dream.

Upon checking in, I can’t help but think if the walls at Peppers Craigieburn could talk, they’d have some interesting tales to tell of life here in the late 1800’s. The character filled communal areas and views over the 36-acre property really make you feel like you’ve gone back in time.

With plenty of private lounge rooms, a billiards table room, onsite Spa and the Hickory’s Restaurant and Bar  (which offers a fabulous High Tea!) this ‘home away from home’ is stylish, comfortable and everything you want out of a Winter country retreat.

A comfy bed is always a must on a weekend escape and I can personally say the beds make you feel like you are floating on clouds – big tick from me.

I recommend opting for a room in the Elms Wing, which is the original wing of the house, with each room opening directly onto the verandah balcony which is the perfect spot to have a morning cup of tea while taking in the misty garden views.

3. The cozy fireplaces:

What’s a Winter getaway without a warm fireplace to snuggle up beside? Peppers Craigieburn offers not one, but (at least) four separate fireplaces to choose from which is great for ensuring guests have their own privacy in the communal area.

I have to admit we spent a fair amount of our time at Peppers Craigieburn checking out the various fireplaces. From lazy mornings with a magazine and a post breakfast coffee, to an early evening Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris before heading into town for dinner.

4. The golf course is the perfect excuse to walk off a long lunch

So I’m not much of a golfer, however with the beautiful Southern Highlands surrounds, I was quite happy to play caddie for the afternoon and follow my golf loving partner around the 9-hole onsite course, while burning off some of the calories from our long lunch at nearby Bendooley Estate.

Just like the rest of Peppers Craigieburn, the golf course has a history and has been a home to many rounds of golf for over 100 years, with the original course still intact.

Golf isn’t so boring with views like this.

5. The incredible food and wine scene in the Southern Highlands:

Last but definitely not least…although it’s super hard to leave the comfortable relaxed setting of Peppers Craigieburn, you can’t go to the Southern Highlands without getting a taste of the many amazing local restaurants and taste testing some of the regions cool climate wines.

One of the MANY amazing experiences in Bowral: Biota Dining’s five-course degustation.
