18 reasons why you need this Ubud resort in your life

I hate to be pushy but if you’ve hit the middle of the year and are in dire need of a break, THIS is the resort for you. Here are 18 reasons you need to book a stay at COMO Uma Ubud, stat!

1. It’s the perfect sanctuary: The main drag of Ubud can get a little crazy (Sydney traffic has nothing on Bali traffic!) but venture down the lush driveway of this five-star property and you’ll immediately feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle.

2. A welcome drink on arrival: What is it about being on holidays that makes you parched? 😉 A refreshing beverage to keep you hydrated during the seamless check-in process is an early win.

3. Designer style: I love a hotel that transports me immediately into holiday mode. From the open-air lobby and the lush plant-covered walls, to the immaculate gardens and the intricate and colourful doors (trust me), there’s plenty to catch your eye.

4. Complimentary yoga with a view: Guests can enjoy complimentary yoga classes seven days a week, which are run in an open-air yoga pavilion that sits high in the Tjampuhan Valley with dramatic views of the river far below. The location is tranquil and beautiful and the class is one of the best I’ve ever done.

5. A morning walk that’s so much more: Also featured on the daily schedule is a complimentary guided morning walk of the area surrounding the hotel. Which, let’s face it, could be ho-hum, but turns out to be a stunning and informative tour of the local rice fields with a guide who provides amazing insight into this integral part of the Ubud community.

6. A brekkie worth getting out of bed for: Dive into the buffet breakfast spread but be sure to leave room for something from the all-inclusive à la carte menu too. I’m a bit of a health nut, so the signature healthy COMO Shambhala cuisine options are right up my alley. I can’t fault the nut-and-seed flatbread with avocado and cashew hummus or the fluffy egg white omelet. And how good is tropical fruit?!

7. On-site restaurant options so you really don’t have to leave: Ubud is foodie heaven but, then, so is the COMO. Kemiri, where breakfast is hosted, also serves dinner with classic Indonesian and COMO Shambhala options. Uma Cucina is a highly regarded Italian restaurant and lounge with a focus on local produce. And Uma Bar, overlooking the pool, caters to all your cocktail and light-meal needs.

8. That pool: Any good Bali break needs some serious pool time and COMO Uma Ubud has you sorted with this 25m beauty at the heart of the resort. Laze poolside with a good book, cool down with a quick dip, order a cocktail. And repeat.

9. The loveliest staff: I often save this point until last, but the COMO Uma Ubud team really do feel like long-lost friends. Their general warmth and assistance helped make our stay.

10. A massage that will be hard to beat: Once you’re introduced to the taksu massage, there is no going back. In Balinese, ‘taksu’ refers to a magical transference of energy between two people who connect. All I can say is wow. If you get the chance, it’s a must.

11. The COMO signature tea: Post-massage, I’m treated to a delicious concoction of ginger, lemon and honey that basically tastes like Christmas. I proceed to order one to our room every night for the rest of our stay.

12. Your very own fish pond: Opening the door to our Garden Pool Villa – one of COMO Uma Ubud’s 46 rooms, suites and villas – I’m greeted by a luxe stone path that happens to also lead to some very good-looking fish!

13. A walk-in wardrobe of your dreams: Turn left off the open-air entryway and you’ll step into the huge bathroom and wardrobe space, complete with double basins, luxe bath, shower and a whole lot of storage space.

14. High-ceiling bedroom goodness: Maybe it’s the claustrophobia of Sydney apartment life, but high ceilings make me happy. To the right of the entryway, slide the door to reveal a light and airy bedroom space complete with a four-poster king bed with mosquito netting, gorgeous stylings and a view that’s very easy to get used to.

15. Your very own pool: The main pool might be fab, but nothing beats your very own private plunge pool for a quick dip. It makes for an excellent view from bed too!

16. A schedule of activities to suit everyone: Beyond the complimentary offerings, there is also a whole schedule of activities such as whitewater rafting and a traditional morning market tour that you can enjoy for an additional cost. I’ll definitely be doing the cooking class next visit!

17. A gym: It’s on the small side, but air-conditioned treadmill action beats the humidity and traffic of running roadside in Ubud, so that’s definitely a tick in my book.

18. The little things: From arranging a late check-out to helping secure restaurant bookings and drivers, you’re in very good hands at COMO Uma Ubud. Your only challenges will be not tearing up when the staff wave you a fond farewell as you leave and how to justify a return visit as soon as possible.

Nicole stayed as a guest of COMO Uma Ubud but all opinions remain her own.
