Check-in was met with an aggressive hard sell on trying to get you to pay to upgrade your room. Was over the top and not good. First room had an unclean bathtub, so we moved to another room which was better but also had trash on the floor and a lot of maintenance issues including a shower handle that spins in your hand so very hard to use, a bed that will destroy your back as has zero support, along with lumpy pillows. One of the bathroom lights was out so was dark in the bathroom. This should have been caught when cleaning the room! The ventilation system had issues so you were either freezing or sweating. That sucked. Don't bother going to the restaurant if you are gluten free. While they do take a lot of care to let you know what is GF and not, their offering for those of us who NEED GF is poor at best. We opted to eat elsewhere. Luckily the staff in the restaurant are great, or we would have given the hotel 2 stars. Jasmine in the bar is a superstar! All said, I cannot and would not recommend this hotel. Had good past experiences with the Hotel du Vin brand, but this one left us wondering if we can trust the brand.

I had high hopes as I believe HdV market themselves as a luxury brand but I didn’t get that vibe during my stay. The solo member of staff on reception was dealing with someone else when I arrived. By the time they’d checked the couple in and showed them upstairs to their room and come back, it felt like an eternity after traveling a long way, needing a pee and feeling exhausted. The room was really nice, comfy bed, massive bathroom with underfloor heating and nice products, but the ceiling cobwebs were a distraction. I also really like the option to opt out of housekeeping and donate to a brain charity instead but overall, I’m still debating if it’s good value for money.

Good choice for a stay in York

Chose this hotels as we have stayed in other hotels du vin around the UK. The one in York is quite similar, being located in an historic building, nicely decorated, friendly staff. The room in the main building was nice, a bit on the small side but this is fairly typical of the chain. It is about 15 mins walk to the centre of York, or there are frequent buses along the main road.

The staff are so friendly and will do anything g they can to help. the rooms have recently been refurbished and they are really beautiful, to think this hotel room is as the same price as the premier inn, it’s really a no brainer! Stay here it won’t disappoint .

Just outside the centre of town, classy hotel

Great hotel just outside the town centre which is great and easy for a stroll into town. Nice bar and manager who attends the bar regularly.

Great location. Signature suite was very nice. His and hers baths to relax and watch tv. Huge shower. Great loft room. Hotel bar, and areas outside to drink and relax were very well kept and nice and spacious. Overall- the hotel was in a great location, had a very unique and boutique feel- and the staff were very professional and welcoming
