My wife and I had booked a room nearly a month in advance to stay the night after attending a wedding. When we arrived to check in at 3 PM, we were told that they didn't have any rooms ready yet and that we would be able to check in later in the night when the wedding was over. When we returned to the hotel that night, we were told that all of the rooms had been filled and we wouldn't be able to stay. The staff was extremely rude throughout the ordeal and completely dismissive of the massive inconvenience that this had called. We were told that this "just happens sometimes", and the staff acted as if it was absurd for us to be frustrated by the situation. By the time it was determined that we would absolutely not be able to stay, it was almost Midnight. Rather than be stranded in Wilmington, my wife and I made the two hour drive home.
While we were dealing with this situation, there was a line of guests behind us who were also having problems getting into there rooms. I am usually a very understanding person and always try to acknowledge that it's not the fault of the employee, but to have this major of an inconvenience be met with absolutely no sympathy by the woman behind the desk who claimed to be in charge of the hotel was a first for me.
